I stopped receiving bill for $30/year to avoid ads on my site. Why? How do I resume this?

  • Hi –

No problem! I can take a look. Is this for writeresumesright.wordpress.com or a different site?

    Hi Liz K,

Wow, thank you for actually responding.

Yes, exactly, and other URLs that point to it.

    Respectfully,
    Scott

Hi Scott, I looked at your account and the No Ads upgrade you had expired in May of 2016. Given the time that has elapsed, and give the No Ads upgrade is no longer available separately, you might want to consider our WordPress.com Personal Plan at $48/yr, which includes No Ads, 6GB of storage space for documents and images, a custom domain name, and Email and Live Chat support.

Why did you stop billing me? I don’t need all that stuff. The only non-text I ever wanted to post was a short audio (under 15 minutes), but cannot.

  • The credit card you provided when you originally bought the No Ads upgrade expired in March 2016, so it was not possible for us to charge that card when the upgrade was due for renewal in May 2016.

We would have sent you several emails, starting 90 days before that upgrade expired, warning you that we no longer had a valid card on file for you and that you need to renew the upgrade in order to keep it. If you did not receive those emails, it’s possible Gmail sent them to Spam or some other inbox filter, but that’s not something we have any control over.

As @thesacredpath said above, we no longer sell the No Ads upgrade as a stand-alone upgrade, and after this long it’s no longer possible to restore the expired upgrade to your account. Now the only way to remove advertising from your site is to upgrade to one of our paid plans at My Site ->Plans.

I received no such messages, and if they were actually sent, then why am I receiving messages from you now, i.e., not going to spam?

I do not look forward to re-starting the whole website process, but it appears unavoidable.

  • Automated emails, like renewal reminders, are more likely to be filtered somewhere other than the inbox than, for example, the new reply notifications you’re receiving for this forum thread. That’s not something we control at all, but is determined by Gmail’s algorithms that scan your emails to decide what they think is important to you and what not, and what you want to see in your inbox and what not.

I’ve switched off all those filters in Gmail for that very reason – I’d prefer to see all my emails and decide for myself what’s important and what not.
