301 redirect

  I want to permanently re-direct users to a new site with completely different theme and content. The new site has a SSL certificate so is it still possible to redirect my original site?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  So redirecting from sushmakotechafamilymediation.com to http://www.glyniswright.co.uk – they are completely different sites. I just need the user to be redirected to the new one – how can this be done?

  You need the Site Redirect upgrade. It is made just for that purpose.

  Sure, I understand there is a re-direct which is purchasable – my question is: will it re-direct to a new site with an SSL certificate?
  It mentions something about: Site redirects will only point to a non-ssl ( http:// ) url.

  So am I going to need another solution?

  You should not have any trouble redirecting sushmakotechafamilymediation.com to http://www.glyniswright.co.uk.

  Okay, thanks I will try the redirect out.

  One other question – wordpress mention:

  Please note: In order for the Site Redirect to work correctly, the permalinks on the new site (the one you’re redirecting to) should match those at WordPress.com. WordPress.com uses the following permalink structure:

  http://example.com/2014/10/21/sample-post/

  As the two sites are completely 100% different websites I’m assuming this will not matter? Am i correct?

  Finally, will completing the re-direct alter or potentially alter anything on the new site i.e http://www.glyniswright.co.uk ?

  You are correct. That only matters if you are going from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress site.

  Absolutely not. It would be impossible for it to change anything on the new site.

  The site i want to redirect from is with wordpress.com but the new site I host myself although it is built using wordpress – is this a problem?

  No.

  But if you want a specific page on the WordPress.com site to point to that exact same page on the new site, you will have to pay attention to making sure that the permalinks are the same.

  If that exact same page does not exist on the new site, then it is not an issue. You can ignore the permalinks.
