301 redirect

  Hello, I was wanting to ask about 301 redirect. Is it possible to do it on wordpress.com or just self hosted? It occured to me while reading about it that my site has four potential sites: http://www.steampunkjournal.org, http://steampunkjournal.org, http://www.steampunkjournal.wordpress.com and http://steampunkjournal.wordpress.com.

  Is this relevant in today’s society? Is there anything I can or should do?

  Hi Matt,

  Please note that WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from all URLs. Any traffic to http://www.steampunkjournal.org, http://www.steampunkjournal.wordpress.com or steampunkjournal.wordpress.com will be redirected to steampunkjournal.org.

  Redirecting the previous versions of your URL to the second version helps to ensure that search engines index your site properly.

  Hi, no that’s great news, thanks so much. I was simply wondering if I was losing some traffic stats, but it would appear not, so we’re A-OK. :-)
