301 redirects – new permalink structure

Hi all. I’ve scoured the forum already but to no avail. Here’s hoping you can help.

I have a WordPress. Com site and a WordPress. Org site. I want to redirect t the first to the second. However, my tech-support messed up and did not match the permalink structures of the two sites so buying the Site Redirect Upgrade will not work, I’ll have wasted money on a bunch of 404 errors.

I’ve manually generated the code to go into the old sites htacess file but I understand I can’t access this as a free WordPress user.

    So what do I do?

From what I can see my only option is to change the permalink structure (which will generate another layer of redirects) before I but the site redirection.

To add to the complexity there is already another set of redirects in place from an old blogger site to my WordPress. Com site.

Any suggestions as to how I resolve this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.

    Hi efwalt,

We do not allow access to the WordPress.com .htaccess file. In fact, to get technical WordPress.com is not even running Apache so no such file exists.

You have a couple of options:
    1) Set up a site redirect and change the permalink structure on your self-hosted site to match that of WordPress.com
    2) add domain mapping to your site and set your mapped domain as your primary URL this will redirect all traffic to your WordPress.com subdomain to your self-hosted site’s front page.

You may also wish to think about changing your blogger redirect to point to your new self-hosted WordPress site instead of WordPress.com. If you need help with that you’ll need to contact Blogger support.
