400 Request Header or Cookie too large
-
Keep getting this (in Chrome – seems OK in FireFox) when trying to open WP Admin (https://peterthomas.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ without the custom domain being applied).
Have deleted peterthomas.wordpress.com cookies and then wordpress.com cookies, no difference
Works OK from time to time, but seems a more and more frequent error.
Anyone else getting this?
Peter
PS Somewhat ironically, also just got it trying to submit this form in Chrome – now doing so in FireFox
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi trnovice,
I am tagging this thread with ‘modlock’ so staff can help you with this issue.
Please keep patience while someone from support staff gets back to you.
Thanks!

Hi there @kruni0524, the tag for staff is MODLOOK. I’ve gone ahead and changed that. Thanks for tagging and welcome to volunteering in the community forums. If you haven’t seen it yet, you might want to review our support guide for volunteers which has a lot of good “how-to” information.

Hi there,
A known cause for this is having PollDaddy comment ratings active on a site, but that doesn’t appear to be the case here so the most likely other cause for this is a corrupted cookie. Can you check if this happens if you log in using an incognito Chrome window, and then visit a few pages?
If it works in incognito mode, my next suggestion would be to completely clear the cache and cookies in Chrome, given that you’ve already tried deleting WordPress.com cookies – there might be a cookie tied to a custom domain which isn’t deleted when you only clear WordPress.com cookies.

Deleted all cookies, which (though a pain) seemed to work (fingers crossed)
Thanks

If it was a corrupted cookie this will hopefully take care of it – as a rule they don’t just go corrupt repeatedly and for no reason :)

Hmm… spoke too soon. Was fine for quite some time. Now getting it again (when hitting “preview” from the legacy editor (which I am still wedded to).
Presumably something else. Any ideas?

More info…
1. Works in FireFox (went back to Chrome and still fails)
2. Works in Chrome incognito mode (went back to regular Chrome and still fails)
3. Closed all Chrome windows and reloaded – still fails

OK – very weird – after being away from my keyboard for a while, it now works fine in regular Chrome – I took no action, now all seems OK.
Help!

Hi Peter – Have you already tried to disable your Chrome browser extensions? One of those could be running interference.

Thanks. Come back here to let me know if that makes a difference at all. Which version of Chrome are you using?
