404 error on homepage – what to change???

Hey guys.
I am new in WordPress and got a template called “pcturethis” form a webdeveloper.
setting is it all up goes along so far, but now when I access the site, there comes 404 error message.
I contacted the creater of the theme and he said, that there should be no page actually set as a homepage. And i did not do that. After 6 days I still did not receive an answer the helps me… also the german wordpress forum could not help, so I am asking you guys for help now!!
So can maybe anybody tell me, what I can change to gt this fixed? There should be pictures scrolling through the background.

You’re welcome and here’s a tip. Front pages will show a 404 page not found error when we have deleted the placeholder post and have not yet to published a post of our own creation. I don not know if that’s your issue or not and as I said you have to get support from http://wordpress.ORG/support/

Ok that sounds like it makes sense.
But As I should not have any page or something set as background, I have no idea, where or what the placeholder could be…
But already wrote this in the correct forum ;)thank you very much!!
