404 error on preview page
-
This morning I am trying to post and when I click on preview, all that appears is a 404 error message. I have not deleted anything. Just proceeded as I do each day.
What do I do or how do I proceed? Thanks, Patrice.

Hi there, here are some troubleshooting questions to help narrow down the problem:
– does this happen on published posts or just drafts?
– does it happen in another browser, like Chrome or Firefox?
– have you changed any of your browser’s cookie settings recently?
– could you provide a link to a specific post where this is happening so I can take a look? Thanks!

Hi back,
It only happened this morning when I was trying to preview a new post on my blog, http://patriceclarkson.wordpress.com. I was able to publish it but not to preview.
I didn’t try Chrome or Firefox. Didn’t think of doing this! Just crossed my fingers that it would look okay. Never happened before.
I haven’t changed my browser’s cookie settings lately.
The post address is http://patriceclarkson.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/sometimes-beautiful/
Thanks for your help,
Patrice. -
Hi Patrice, if you create a new draft post on your site – it can just be a test post, no need to ever publish it – feel free to let me know if you’re able to preview it in any browser and we can take it from there. Thanks!

Okay, it still does not work in Safari.
The draft page is: http://patriceclarkson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=post
And the error page is: http://patriceclarkson.wordpress.com/?p=7678&preview=trueWorks just fine in Firefox and Chrome.
Again, thanks for your help :D

Hi there, thanks for that. Strangely, I was able to preview that post just fine in Safari on my end, although I noticed you’re running Safari version 5 and I’m running version 6.
Are you running any extensions that you could turn off temporarily to see if they may be interfering? You can check under Preferences > Extensions.

I just turned off extensions and reloaded the draft page and clicked ‘Preview’ and still came up with a 404 error page.
I’ll close down Safari, my computer and relaunch and see what happens…Maybe get version 6.

Just relaunched my computer and everything works fine. I must have had a corrupt something. Thanks for all your assistance.

That’s great! Sometimes when in doubt, a reboot does the trick. Glad you thought of it. :-)
Happy blogging!
