404 file not found error with pictures

There are many pictures that do not display any more on my blog. They’re also not in my media file, even though I did not delete them. How can I get the pictures to reappear in my blog ?

There are many pictures that no longer display on my blog. They are also not in my media library, even though I did not delete them. How can I get the pictures to reappear in my blog? There is a file not found 404 error displayed for the missing pictures.

When you delete images from your Media Library there are no longer on WordPress.COM servers and will NOT be displayed in posts or pages when browsers call for the servers to display them because they no longer exist on the servers. I did not delete the images from my media library, yet I can’t find them so they must have been deleted somehow. It’s very frustrating, because I have images from 2011 that are fine, but starting with mid 2012 through the 2014, many images are missing. Some are there, some are not. I never did anything to any of the images.

And no, I have not hotlinked to images hosted on another site. On my blog, I uploaded images to my media library, then inserted them into each post. I did this from 2011 through 2014. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered many, many of my images are missing in my blog posts and in my media library. I didn’t do anything to the images.

ok thank you. I’m just wondering, though, if I am going to have to re-upload the missing pictures anyway because they are also missing from my media library. If so, I might as well just do this and skip the step you just mentioned. Or, is it possible that they can somehow reappear in my media library? I am positive that I did not delete them from my media library yet they are not there.

Below are a few URLs for posts with missing pictures. As you can see, some pictures are there, but some are not. I did not delete the ones that are not there. There are many other URLs with missing photos, continuing forward from these dates. I can include them as well, if someone knows how to fix them. But here is a sampling of the problem URLs.

Yes, those are the same images I see. But there is one missing, the second picture, with the caption of “my mom and the girls playing in the yard in the summer.” This picture does not display – this is the issue I’m referring to, of some pictures displaying and others not.
I connect to the internet with a wireless Apple router, I use a MacBook Pro and Safari 7.1.6.

That image was deleted two years ago. Along with a number of other images, which I suspect is the source of the whole “missing image” issue.
As has been noted, if you delete images from your media library, they will disappear from any post you have used them in.
I’m afraid you will have to go back through and re-upload them if you want to fix the problem.

I have no idea how the images were deleted from my media library, I am certain that I did not delete them. But I suspected that would be the unfortunate solution. Thanks for your help, and if you come across this happening with anyone else, or have another solution, please let me know.
