435 vs. 194 available themes

  • Unknown's avatar

I have multiple WordPress sites. All are of the FREE type.

    On https://climatesciencefictionstory.wordpress.com
    there are 435 available themes

All of my other sites, with a variety of themes, show the above number of available themes.

    However on https://theendofconflict.wordpress.com
there are only 194 available themes.

The one I want is of course missing from the latter.

I have looked at every setting/choice I can think of and can’t see why there are only 194 themes available on this one site of mine.

    Any explanation or suggestions?

As I go through all my other blogs I find they actually all have a different number of available themes.

So of course theme X is available to one site but not to another.

That makes no sense at all.

An explanation for this would be appreciated.

I appreciate that I may be doing something, some setting or another, that is causing this but I can’t see it.

  • Hi there!

Which theme exactly are you looking for?

Thank you but that’s not the question I’m asking.

What I would like to know is why are there a different number of available themes on each of my sites.

On each of my sites I have selected the TRENDING and ALL tabs on the
    wp-admin/themes.php
page yet do not get the same results.

I have been using WordPress for twelve years including building and managing WP sites for clients.

After a 40 year career in IT including managing website and software development teams it seems very odd to me that my current sites have different numbers of available themes. Different by hundreds. All I am asking is what factor causes this so that I can address it.

Are the different sites under different accounts? How many themes you have access to can depend on when you created your account. Newer accounts don’t have access to themes retired before the date the account was created.

And I’ve just created a new site on my 12 year old account and find that only has 194 themes available so when the site was created matters too.

    Thank you for your response.

I am retired now and only looking after my own ‘hobby’ sites now. I have about a dozen.

All my sites are under the same account that I have used for the past twelve years.

I have however built about four new sites over the past six months (under the same account), again just personal hobby sites. When I went to build another this past week I noticed how few themes were available and upon checking my other sites found they almost all had a different number of available themes.

    Thanks again.

I guess all those 194 themes are compatible with the block editor whilst many retired themes are not so good with that editor. There are many changes to WordPress.com currently especially with the impending removal of wp-admin.

I suspect you are correct regarding the “when the site was created” factor.

    Closing ticket.

    Thanks again.
