500 error after updating plugin – both backend and frontend now inaccessible

I just updated an out-of-date plugin (WooCommerce, which our site uses for our storefront), and now not only am I getting a 500 error when I try to view our site, I also can’t edit or manage anything on the backend. I’m seeing no published pages, no plugins (so I can’t even deactivate the plugin in question to solve the problem), no nothing. WordPress keeps telling me the site can’t be accessed and asking if I want to disconnect it, which I don’t. Is there anything I can do to fix this other than hoping our last admin did a backup and restoring to that? (I’m pretty sure he didn’t, and I would really rather not have to rebuild everything from scratch.)

For reference: I’ve checked the file manager on our actual domain hosting site and all the files are still there. It’s just that nothing will load and I can’t edit anything.
