500 internal error
-
Hi,
I’m trying to export my wordpress.com site to wordpress.org and when I try to import the xml file to wordpress.org I get the 500 Internal Error page.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi!
That’s odd – this often occurs if your import is hitting a memory limit on your self-hosted server. However, your import doesn’t seem to be that big. The best route forward would likely be to reach out to your hosting service to see if they have any insight into what may be causing this issue. If you’re hitting a size limit, they should be able to help you bump that limit up so you don’t encounter this any longer. Can you give that a shot?
Sorry I can’t help more right away. Since you’re referring to a self-hosted site, I have limited access to what might be causing the issue!

Thanks Jeremy.
I think the problem is with wordpress.com though. I’m transferring from .com to .org.
Do you still think the error is with Managed WordPress via GoDaddy? That’s what I have and am transferring my wordpress.com site to.
Thanks,

Hi Lula,
You’re receiving the error message when you try to import into WordPress.org at GoDaddy – correct? If so, I’m afraid that does sound like an error with GoDaddy, not with WordPress.com. Can you try contacting them and see if the import is hitting an upload limit on their servers? I think that’s the best route forward right now!
