6.7: can’t link media file

  After updating to 6.7, the “link to media file” option for the images has disappeared. This affects any lightbox plugin which now can’t be triggered.

  The only workaround I found at the moment is to copy a gallery from my older posts and replace the image(s) to retain the link to media file property.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Copy the image’s File URL from the Media Library, add it to an Image Block, and set the link to “Custom URL” in the Link Settings. For galleries, copy an older gallery with the correct settings, paste it into the new post, and replace the images.
  I have fixed it for my website here, hope it works.

  Copying an older gallery and reusing it as a workaround is the method I suggested in my initial post too, but it’s definitely cumbersome and I’m sure this can’t be the way to add the link to media from now on.

  @rpandian305 I’m glad to see I’m not the only one having this issue, thanks for confirming.

  I just hope someone from the WP team will notice this thread and take action.

  The site you mentioned is not hosted here at WordPress.com, so we’re not able to offer any assistance. That said, it might be worth reaching out to the devs of the lightbox plugin you’re using to see what they suggest.

  Just so I’m sure to understand, this missing feature with 6.7 that didn’t happen before, it’s due to a third-party hosting or plugin and it doesn’t happen if the website is hosted on wordpress.com?

  As Caimin said you must head over to support of the lightbox plugin you use, to get this problem solved.

  I found out that this is not an issue related to the plugin or the hosting. The feature has simply been removed, not sure why.

  I downgraded to wordpress 6.2.2 ! I cant able to copy gallery and link each and every time! Its killing my time. I am jnst posting for fun & time pass. So downgraded to wp 6.2.2 version.

  @rpandian305 I got the solution to this issue on another forum.

  Basically, in the latest WordPress 6.7, they moved those options to the block toolbar (I’m attaching a screenshot below, not sure it’s uploaded correctly though).

  So, if you click on the image, you’ll find the option to link to the image file on the block toolbar.

  

  Similarly, if you click on the gallery, you’ll get the link to media file option again on the block toolbar,

  

  So, this has nothing to do with the hosting provider nor with the lightbox plugin. It’s just a UI change.

  I hope this thread might be useful to anybody else who’s facing the same issue.
