6 questions about WordPress stats

There are a bunch of things that don’t make sense about WordPress stats. Here they are. I’m sure I’m not getting it: maybe others can clarify.

    In no special order:

    1. WordPress says: “Just a note: we don’t count your own visits to your blog.” But they do, sometimes. Sometimes, I go back and edit an ancient post that nobody ever looks at. A couple of minutes later, there it appears on the list of visited posts. This doesn’t happen always, but it DOES happen occasionally. Why?

    2. How can some people possibly reach my blog via some of the words allegedly used as search terms? Somebody got to my blog by putting “Germany” into Google?

    3. “People clicked links from these pages to get to your blog.” In what way is that different from “Incoming links?” This is an obscure distinction and needs clarifying.

    4. Why have a daily “Top Posts & Pages” list limited to 25? There is absolutely no reason why a complete list should not be offered each day. Some blogs get many visits to older posts.

    5. It’s nice to look at the monthly stats to get a sense of how your blog has grown right from the day it was launched. But why limit that record to 16 months? That means that to get a full historical chart of your blog you have to do your own spreadsheet? (I know you get a rather clumsy-looking summary under “Summary Tables” that does go back to the start.) There’s plenty of space on the screen to offer more than 16 months, but even if there weren’t, why couldn’t WordPress offer limitless horizontal scrolling? (Horizontal scrolling is, in general, seriously under-utilized on the web. We’re all supposed to think of scrolling in vertical terms.)

    6. Why don’t we get a whole lot more information about who visitors are, where they are, and what is being measured and how? What counts as a visit? And one more point, not related to stats.

Why do pingbacks look like this?

    Newer post « Blogname Says:

This is ugly! Why not just a heading that says: “The following posts on Blogname link to this post”. Followed by a list of the posts.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks. Yep, realise this is probably in the wrong place. Should it be in Questions?

Yes. There’s no need to repost it, though. I was just wondering if I should bother digging out some answers for you or not.

Sorry. I just DID repost it, slightly changed. Can we get rid of it here and leave it in Questions?
