__.wordpress.com domain cancelled and still not recoverable after 1 week

    Hi,

    In an attempt to reset my complete blog, I cancelled my __.wordpress.com domain name, so that my newly set up blog can take the domain name over.
    I read in some other forum posts that it usually takes 5 days for the domain to be back on the market, while it could also possibly take up to 60-90 days. Now it’s been more than a week, and I’d like to see if there’s a possibility to ask the WordPress staff to check if the domain has been released or the status of that domain?
    I have a not very interesting domain name so I don’t think another person would have registered it in the meantime, thus likely I’m not seeing it is because of the domain not being fully released yet.
    Here is the domain name I previously had:

    When you deleted your wordpress.com subdomain you got several warnings it wouldn’t be possible to you that subdomain ever again.
    Let see if Staff is able to restore your subdomain.

    Hi there, https://jeanwchuang.wordpress.com/ had not been purged yet, so I was able to recover it.

    It sounds like you were trying to change an existing blog’s address to this address, but blogs cannot be changed to existing or deleted addresses.

    Instead, you can move the content by exporting https://wordpress.com/support/export/ and importing: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-a-sites-content/

    Hi staff-blorbo,

    Thank you very much for recovering that for me! I see that it’s not possible to change to deleted addresses. My intention was to start the blog new anyways so all good.

    I think what you describe sounds more like usernames, where it’s really not possible to recover anymore once you change it. The old ones become permanently unavailable to you and others. But for domains this is not the case. As long as nobody else claims it, it’s possible to get it back. It’s just that once you let go of it, it re-enters the open market and there is a risk that someone beats you to getting it.
    I changed my domain name intentionally so it’s fine. Just needed the staff to help me see the release status of the domain.
