A badge for featured blog post?

Todays’ feature blog post maybe forgotten tomorrow, and the author of the post may not even know that the post WAS featured. Is there a way for WP to notify the author when the post is featured? And to add a badge of somesort into the post, such that after the post is no longer featured, it still is recognized that someone wrote something decent.

Maybe this suggestion was made before my time.. just let me know what you think?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Featured Blog status isn’t conferred for the quality of content; it’s conferred because that blog uses that particular tag more than any other.

Is that so? Then its a pretty dum thing to label it featured blog.
    Are you sure about this?

Raincoaster makes a living from her WordPress.com blog so I dare say she’s 100% confident when saying that, CMIIAW.

I was so looking forward to tracking my favorite subjects written
by credible persons (with badges) so that I dont have to waste time
going thru crap. I was going to suggest also, that there be a
customisable widget for tracking updates on the tags that I want
    to follow…

.. that got me wondering.. why was there someone bitching about
her blog not chosen to be feature over another?

You can always subscribe to specific subject(s) via tag surfer or customizable readomattic from your dashboard or global tags’ rss. As for the badge, I’m afraid you must create yourserlf and embed it on your blog.
