A blog owner changed what I said
-
I posted comments at a blog. The blog owner deleted my comments and now he has something totally derogatory up on his site and he is making it look like I wrote it.
Who can I contact to have this person removed the comments because I don’t appreciate the fact that he is writing ignorant stuff and using my name and quoting it like I said it.

i don’t know if you can’t do anything about it because it’s his blog. what you can do is to write in your blog explaining this and send a trackback to the post he is posing as you, so other readers can click on your trackback and see your explanation. that is, if he doesn’t delete your trackback…

Luckily I have not yet run into this situation but I have heard of others having this problem. It’s hard to prove that you did not write the comment if they have used your email address and name, but the courts have agreed that a blogger’s comment on another blog belongs to the blogger that made the comment, not the owner of the blog.
Here is a good place to start: http://www.reasonableman.com/archive/2005/02/who_owns_blog_c.html
According to this, and to the other research I have done – especially in the case where someone (blog owner or not) has put up a comment that is identified in such a way to make people think that you made it, upon your request, they must take it down.
How you are going to accomplish this I don’t know. If the blog owner will not take it down, then your next step would be to make a request to the blog hosting company.
As the referenced article points out, it may be difficult to prove that the comment is not yours. If they deleted yours and then dummied one up, I would think you could prove it by comparing the IP addresses. If they modified yours, then the IP addresses would be the same and would not support you.
You’ve got an interesting situation and I wish you the best of luck.
Is the blog that modified or dummied up the post here on wordpress.com?

It is a wordpress blog. Do you know of an e-mail address for this site because I have searched and cannot find one.
I don’t think this guy is very smart so I am sure he just edited the comments and put what he wanted. I am sure wordpress can prove this.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for what you have given me so far.

I would say that you need to include all the details and then send it in to http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ when they open in the morning (9am-5pm Pacific) and see what they say. Too much detail is not enough.
Include your email address, your blog URL, a description of the problem, the URL of the blog that changed your comment, and the URL of the post on that blog where the comment was changed.
This actually goes past a copyright violation and into the fraud area.

Only support would have access to their email address and information. Most of us here are simply volunteers.

Thanks I will try those. Really thanks a lot. It was very nice of you to help me. I appreciate it:)

This is not something I will get involved in. As I have no idea what was said, what was changed then it becomes a ‘he said, she said’ scenario. It’s a no-win. After all, even if they did change the comment back they can then post a blog entry all about it.
Do not comment on the blog again. It is obviously a waste of time.
I also will not give any information regarding the blogger. They have the same privacy as you.
