A Case for Civilian Ownership of Assault Weapons
By Keith Kaye, a natural, living man – April 2016- My Thoughts
The People of our Republic have need for assault weapons which compares to those of our military and our law enforcement agencies.
There are many reasons for this need, allow me to explain.
The Facts of the History of the Military, thePolice and US
These groups have proven needs for assault weapons based on, military history. We need to produce as much fire power as necessary and as quickly as we can.
What I am saying is history tells us that whether we are in combat faced with active armed resistance; or on the streets faced with an armed element; in our homes confronted by an armed home-invasion, people will do one of the following on their first confrontational experience:
1)- Run or surrender,
2)- Stay but not do anything and allow someone else to do the resisting,
3)- Fire wildly, or
4)- Fire for affect.
Now then, these items prove to be true even though the military and police have been trained specifically for these conditions!
The Un-Armed Citizen
Like the military and the police the People are faced with confrontation, for the most part, by heavily armed criminals. Street thugs and home-invaders have full-automatic AK-47s. They don’t even hide that fact.
So, lacking extensive formal training such as is available to the military and the police the People also need as much fire power as they can get hold of. There is no level playing field when it comes to the defense of our People on our streets or in our homes.
Why do average People want guns anyway?
1)- They collect them,
2)- They purchase them as investments,
3)- They hunt,
4)- They enjoy shooting, and, maybe mostly importantly today,
5)- They own them for the defense of themselves and their families.
All of these are lawful rights and legitimate reasons for ownership and possession of firearms as guaranteed by the Constitution for the United States of America.True Stories
In my opinion the greatest military sniper in history was Carlos Hathcock. He was a Marine in Viet Nam who saved countless numbers of lives.
At one juncture he held an entire North Vietnamese regiment at bay for 3 days singlehandedly and he could only fire one shot at a time.
Another time he successfully hunted and exterminated one of the enemy’s most deadly snipers who happened to be a female. She was notoriously blood-thirsty. At night, to lure Marines out into the open she used to take captured Marines and tie them to a stake close enough so other Marines could hear what was going on. She would then skin the Marine alive in the hopes his screams would affect the others who were forced to listen to the torture. Carlos ended her life with a nicely-place head-shot.
My point is Carlos, using only one shot at a time, had tremendous influence on the enemy because he was a highly trained and capable individual. He was the best. But, he was not typical like the rest of us and that is what makes my case for civilians having access to assault weapons.
My Conclusions
Initially, we, unlike Carlos Hathcock, would probably react much differently. We are not trained professionals.
Because our enemies and the criminals on the streets now commonly have the latest in assault weapons we have so-armed our military and police, I ask youShould We the People be deprived of anything less protective?!
To possess assault weapons I personally feel that People should have some training. However I do not feel that a lack of training should keep us from purchasing and owning such weapons.

If a home-invader is planning on entering my home I do not believe that a sign posted outside my home saying, “Beware! I fully intend on notifying the Police if you unlawfully enter this Premise” would be to my advantage. No, in that instance I would feel a little more confident about defending myself or my family if I had a full-auto AR-16 in my hands. Backed-up with semi-automatic Colt Model 1911 .45 and a sawed-off Mossberg, 12 Ga. 3” Magnum loaded with 0-0 Buckshot.
“Welcome to my home Mr. Invader”.With that, I rest my case.
