A Category Structural Question
-
I will use my blog to illustrate my question.
I put up mixes for people to download.
I have the categories widget set up for music genres. So when I write a post I can easily check which category the post belongs in and poof it shows up in the correct genre.
However, I also want to have a category section for “djs”. Is it possible to have two separate category sections?
I know I could make each individual dj a category and it would show up as a box for me to check when posting, but this would mean that the DJ names would then show up as a long list in my “genre” section off to the left side.
The work around I have come up with so far is creating a “by dj” section with a text widget, this leads you to a page of dj names that link you to separate pages for each dj. However this means that after I write a post that neatly gets put into the “genre” section, I have to then create a separate page for that dj, copy/paste the post I just wrote, and add it to the new page. A huge extra step.
I would love to be able to check the box which files it into my “genre” category, and then another box for the “dj” category. Is this in any way possible?
Thanks in advance.

No, managing categories doesn’t include that possibility.
Best thing you can do is use one or more Links widgets instead of the Categories widget. Get the URLs of your genre categories, go to Links > Add New, create links under a “Genres” link category; do the same for your dj categories (or tags) under a “DJs” link category. It’s manual again, but at least you’ll only have to update each time you add a new category, not each time you add a new post.
