A chance to correct one's published comment
-
More than once I’ve entered a comment, only to discover moments later that there’s a typo or some other mistake in it. Would it be possible to give WP commenters a chance to edit or correct their just-posted comments? I’ve been on some non-WP sites where, for 15 minutes or sometimes indefinitely, the commenter could go back in and edit his own published comment. A brief window would be enough, since inevitably we notice our gaffes half a second after we hit “enter.”
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As I am visyally challenged I rely on those whose blogs I comment on to be kind enough to correct obvious misspellings and typos. I do not support providing the ability to edit comments one has left on another blogger’s blog. I support contacting the blog owner and requesting that they do the editing.
From my comment policy:
7. Comment editing: If you wish to correct typos or spelling errors in a comment submitted for posting use a comment box on the most recent post to make contact, and they will be edited accordingly. All other editing requests will be dealt with on a one-by-one basis. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/commenting/
The reason I take that stand is because I have witnessed despicable goings on on Blogger blogs, where comments were edited and the edits changed the comment content radically leading to angry exchanges and chaos.

Edit: “visyally challenged ” was meant to be “visually challenged”
Also I apologize for the blockquote error. I should have closed the tag before “The reason …”

No abuse. You’d only be able to edit your own comment, not those of other people. The Denver Post is one example.
-
And by the time you notify the administrator and the correction gets made, the typo or whatever has been visible who knows how long. Hours or even days. Besides, I wouldn’t want to bother the administrator with a simple typo, or maybe a code I messed up.
-
That’s exactly what caused the chaos I referred to above.
Person A submits a comment
Person B submits a comment in reference to and based on the substantive comment in person A’s comment.
Person A edits their comment removing the substantive content and replaces it with malarkey.
By then Person C and D and E have now commented on the substantive content in A comment which A has removed.
All that happened within 15 minutes. There is no way I want what you want. We shall have to agree to disagree without becoming disagreeable but do know that I will not back down on this not now – not ever.
If this ability is introduced here at WordPress.com after the comment hell I went through at Blogger then I’ll close all comments on both of my blog and blog on sans discussion Or I’ll move my blogs back to self hosting.

Doh! I’ve never encountered anything like that and would never have thought to do that. Guess I’m not as imaginative as I thought I was.

Oh Pied,
It wasn’t an isolated occasion. The third time that happened I chose to close that absolutely insane chapter in my former blogging life at Blogger. I deleted my blog and moved here. -
