A changed featured image doesn't sync with Facebook's timeline.
-
Hi WordPress,
Can you kindly help me with a Facebook featured preview image question. It’s been bugging me a long time and I’m eager to resolve it for my latest post! I set my feature image to match Facebook’s recommended dimensions. When I paste my link onto my timeline, before clicking “Post”, I can preview what the image will look like. Sometimes, I don’t like the look so I go back to WordPress (please note, this is before I officially share with everyone on Facebook) and change the featured image. This is the problem: when I go back to Facebook and paste my link into the comment box, it doesn’t acknowledge my new image but sticks to the original. I’m stuck. I’ve left it for days thinking it’s in ‘memory’ but somehow WordPress/Facebook don’t sync up. What can I do? I can’t code at all but I’m willing to learn just to overcome this problem.
My website is Londonfatcat.com
Many thanks!
Faten

Hi Faten,
This is probably a result of Facebook caching. When Facebook sees the link for the first time, it associates the link with a specific image. When you go back to change the featured image, Facebook still associates it with the original image.
To solve this, you’ll need to use the Facebook Debugger to reset the cache. The Debugger lives here:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object
From that page, just enter the URL of a specific post like this one:

Then, click “Fetch new scrape information”. That should resolve the featured image issue.
Please let me know if you have any trouble!
