A comment: Stop changing the way we interact with our blogs!

  • Unknown's avatar

The changes in the basic ways we interact with our blogs keeps changing and not one of the changes is for the better. The newest thing is the word “My Sites” in the top left corner. It could be called “stats”, but why is it taking the place of the easy entries I used to have, to the dashboard and so forth. Why not put it under my name on the right where it belongs — and give me the easiest simplest access areas that I used to use all the time. WHO IS BEHIND ALL THESE CHANGES — changes that are not for the better. Stop it Stop it Stop it — WP was fine, don’t change what we use — just add what you want in the top bar! I like changes that are good changes, but I hate the new posting and I hate the new bar — hate is strong but now every time I interact with it is irritates me. Fixing what is fine? Find another job for that person.

    Hi,

Thank you for the feedback and I’m sorry you do not like the new changes we’ve been working on regarding My Sites, and other elements in the new dashboard.

We’re always trying to make WordPress.com better, but we understand that not all changes make everyone happier. That’s why it is important to us that everything in the /wp-admin/ is still available.

You always reach your /wp-admin/ dashboard directly, for example:

    https://dkatiepowellart.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

If you do find yourself in My Sites, a link to the /wp-admin/ dashboard is also available:

The /wp-admin/ dashboard is also available in the Admin bar when viewing your site:

Thank Alex — I can find everything, but possibly the tutorial is good for someone else.

it just seems that over the last few years suddenly WP is making everything more complicated — more clicks to get to what used to be right at our fingertips. I am assuming they are doing this for newbies, but then the rest of this have to change it all over again. I’d rather you ADDED to the top bar rather than changing the top bar constantly. Besides, “my sites” can be reached on the right — and that is where I think it ought to be. WP used to be intuitive — now it needs to be memorized. Right was for other items — help and other blogs — and left was for the blog we were working in. Now you can’t even hit our dashboard without three clicks. Not what I want.

I can certainly appreciate that Right-side / Left-side distinction. I’m going to pass this feedback on to our developers, and I really do appreciate you being candid.

Sorry I don’t have any workarounds for that Admin bar setup, but thank you for reporting your concerns.

Feel free to drop me a note here if you have anything else troubling you.

We also have a survey up regarding changes to just the Admin bar, would you mind filling it out for us? It is four questions long and takes less than two minutes to complete:

Okay, now they went one step further. I’m on a post of mine and want to edit it. IF you were on the post page not the site page the drop down menu still contained edit. They’ve gotten rid of the edit, gotten rid of dashboard, but they are offering me to report my own site? So I go to WP Admin (instead of dashboard — wow that was necessary to change so I could hunt for what might be there), then click on ALL posts, then find the post I want to edit. As one of our famous bloggers would say, “Really????” AT LEAST PUT THE EDIT BUTTON FOR A POST BACK UP. And whomever did this one was really thinking there — I am on MY site, and I want to know what theme I am in, want to be able to like myself, and want to be able to report my own content. Was WP bought by the guys who create Microsoft?

    Hi there,

I’m sorry that you do not like these further changes either. I have reported your new feedback with our development team.

The Edit option can still be found within your posts (example). I know you’d prefer it to be within the Admin bar, but I wanted to let you know it was there so save a few clicks.

The dashboard option remains in that dropdown, it’s just been renamed as “WP Admin”. Still goes to your Dashboard like the old link did, though.

Well, of course I knew how to find the edit button through five clicks! (I outlined that for you, Alex.) The point is, what is the admin bar for? I am happy (sarcasm) they replaced a useful tool (editing the post) with the ability for me to report myself for content, or to be reminded of what theme I was in . . . Either get serious and put many buttons along the admin bar, or choose helpful ones. The dropdown menu is now useless. I will bookmark the places I go — but really, isn’t the point that I should not have to do that? That the webmasters actually understand how we use the bar and put that on top — or do they think a lot of us want to report ourselves for content? Have you gone there and actually thought about how you might use this stupid bar now? It just gets worse. So, now I will have to make a bar for each of my wp blogs along the top of my own firefox, because I have to get around what used ot be a good and helpful site. . . .

BTW Alex, I can see that you did not read my post or you would have seen I finally figured out that WP webmasters decided to rename dashboard. Just for the fun of it.

OR that I gave you the five clicks to getting to the edit function.

Some of us USE WP, not like a giddy teen who has all day to screw around. I don’t see any purpose in changing the names of tools.
