A contradiction

    @supernovia

    As forums staff, we will not be able to just drop everything and go back, or keep the old editor permanently,

    We were assured earlier in your thread that the classic editor will remain for the foreseeable future.
    Which?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • The foreseeable future is not permanent, so, both.

    You did not write ‘may not be able’ but ‘will not be able to keep it permanently’. That means you foresee a time in the future when you will not be able to keep it, you already intend at some future date to discontinue it. This contradicts that it will remain in the foreseeable future.
    When two things contradict you cannot have both.
    I am, sadly, inclined like Mabel to believe you, that you intend to remove the classic editor only not just yet, which means disbelieving the statement made by your colleague..

    No one can foresee the future. Did you see Covid 19 coming? But if the Classic plugin is no longer supported for .org sites after 31st Dec 2021 then the writing is on the wall for the Classic editor here too. Due to the creation of new sites and constant “churn” I’m sure there will come a point sooner rather than later when only a few percent of users here are still working on their sites via /wp-admin and it won’t be an issue for the majority if the Classic tinyMCE editor goes away.

    However in the same way that some people have simulators for retro computer games the Classic editor will continue to be used until it is totally incompatible with modern browsers over at Classicpressdotnet
