A custom slideshow header on the main page
-
Hello all, I’m new to wordpress so go easy on me, lol. I was wondering how I can add a slideshow like this to my main homepage with custom images that will randomize every 3 secs.
I did a search and couldn’t find the exact answer to my question, the search only showed how to add a slideshow to the post or page, and not the main (home) page.
Here is my page,
thekillermeteor.wordpress.com
I had the Bueno theme, but I switched to Twenty Eleven because I read it allows custom headers with feature images support but I dont know how to get it like that site I linked above, HELP.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The only way to do this here is to use an animated gif, and you want to be very frugal with the number of images you put into an animation since animated gif files get very large very quickly and that could slow your page loading times considerably. With animated gifs, make sure and create it in the exact size needed for your particular theme because if wordpress has to resize or crop the image, it will kill the animation.
Twenty eleven will show “featured” images on single post and static pages on a site in the header area. You set the featured image for the posts and pages in the post and page editor (but do not insert the image into the post or page, just set it as featured).
See this post by Panos for more on the workings of twenty eleven and duster.

You might want to have a look at the newest WordPress.com theme Selecta http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/selecta/
It has a featured posts slider and comes with about 6 color options.

Thanks jen, not really the style im looking for, but pretty cool.
Thesacredpath, can you explain in more detail? That link didnt help to much, I really just would like to know how I can do it on the main (home) page so when viewers see my blog, they see the slideshow animation.

The only other option is one of the Premium themes with a slider. There are several.
opinion/ The header in Twenty Eleven is a massive 1000 x 288 pixels. Any animated GIF with more than a few frames at those dimensions is going to be heavy, especially so for visitors on slower connections./opinion
If you are talking about something else than the header area, please be specific.
