A deep-seated error in the BLOCK EDITOR of ‘Independent Publisher 2’.
-
I set up a Webpage in Independent Publisher 2 using the CLASSIC EDITOR. I then realised that FULL WIDTH images were only possible using the BLOCK EDITOR. I used the convertor to reset the page. However, the converted page reverted to CLASSIC EDITOR and has done so ever since. Frustrated, I deleted the whole page and set it up again in BLOCK EDITOR but the system obviously had some memory of the original page (both used the same name for the title) and that was no good either. BLOCK EDITOR is not as well written (or not debugged as thoroughly) as the old CLASSIC EDITOR. Does anyone care? Can anyone help?

Hi there,
We’d be happy to see if we can assist. I see that you have quite a few sites under your account. What is the URL of the site you are referencing?
Thanks,

Thank you very much for contacting me about the problem.
The site that seems to be the problem is . . .
https://kylgallery.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
It will take a rather long explanation to say what has been going on.
For me, WordPress has been a long learning process and I still feel like a beginner sometimes. Some time ago I was interested in selecting a style for a Website that would allow images to be full width on a Webpage. I found that ‘Independent Publisher 2’ had that feature. At the time, I had never used the BLOCK EDITOR – only the CLASSIC EDITOR. I found out only recently that you had to be in BLOCK EDITOR to make images display full-width on a page.
I set about going back to a page and (by using the CONVERT feature) I converted a page from CLASSIC to BLOCK editor. The day I converted the first page, everything was fine. The images were displaying full-width. However, days later when I displayed the page again, I found it had reverted to a sort of ‘twilight mode’. The images were no longer displaying full-width but when you tried to click on them they did not open at full width (as they would if assembled in CLASSIC mode.
I then deleted the ‘dodgy’ page set up a new page (with the same name) and set up all the images in BLOCK editor. After setting them up and trying them out they still did not display at full width. I then deleted that page and tried setting at another page but with a deliberately chose a different name. Still no luck.
Unfortunately, in trying to solve the problem, I have destroyed the very pages that would provide the evidence.
I finally solved the problem by abandoning the kylgallery site and using one of my other WordPress sites that also has the display ‘Independent Publisher 2’ mode. As I said in the original note, it is as if after deleting a Webpage, kylgallery still remembers the settings – which I find hard to believe.
If you need further evidence, I can try converting another page on kylgallery from CLASSIC to BLOCK mode and leaving it for you inspection.
I hope this makes my situation clear.
Thanks for your time,
Adrian.

I changed a setting on our end which will force https://kylgallery.wordpress.com to use the Block Editor.
Has that made any change on your end?
-
Yes, macmanx, the WordPress editor now displays all images full-width on the page (which was not happening before).
The problem now is that when you ask for a ‘Preview’ of that page, it is still displaying as if the contents had been created in CLASSIC EDITOR (not BLOCK EDITOR).
So, you have made some progress but the resulting Webpage stubbornly refuses to display the images full-width.

Hi Adrian, would you be willing to get screenshots of what you’re seeing, then upload them to https://wordpress.com/media ?
Please include a link to an affected post as well.

Hi supernova,
In response to your request, I have uploaded SIX images which are explained below. I hope I have included all. the details.
Screen_01 – View of the BLOCK EDITOR for the top of the page. You can see the title on this page. This is for the BLOCK EDITOR displaying the page from website ‘kylgallery’. NOTE that the image is not set to be full width.
Screen_02 – The image titled ‘Three Cranes Wharf’. NOTE that this image is supposed to display full width.
Screen_03 – Same image as Screen_02 showing the bottom of that image. Everything displays correctly in the BLOCK EDITOR.
Screen_04 – Screen shot of the Webpage.
Web address:
https://kylgallery.wordpress.com/agas-city-year-1-
riverside/Password:
04361Screen_05 – Same Webpage after the Password was entered. NOTE that the Webpage is displaying as if it had been composed in CLASSIC EDITOR.
Screen_06 – The image about ‘Three Cranes Wharf’ which is NOT full width.
I hope I have remembered to include all the details that you need.
The six images have been uploaded to . . .
Adrian.

I should have added that the six screen grabs have been uploaded to media on kylgallery.wordpress.com
Thanks,
Adrian.
