A different site has been attached to my username somehow that doesn’t belong to me

    I altered my username to remove the random string of numbers on the end. WordPress let me do this, with no apparent issues. On my login, I only have my site that I created. When I post comments, if I click on my username, it takes me to a different site that I did not create. How do I fix this, I can’t take credit for someone else’s site, and I can’t delete it, I have no access to it. I can still share my site, but I have to share it manually by providing people the URL. When I am logged in, all I can see is my site

    Correct account: Unknown

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    I suspect that the problem is the “Web Address” entry at your Account Settings page. The Web Address section of the Account Settings support page says, in part:

    The web address will be the link used for your Public Display Name when you leave comments on WordPress.com sites or in the forums. Changing your web address will not affect the link on existing comments; it will only change the link for future comments you leave.

    You may have accidentally entered an address in the the Web Address field that is not associated with you. If so, then the solution would be to edit what’s in the Web Address text field (or box), replacing the URL presently there with your primary site URL if you wish, and then save the change.

    @Staff,

    I think it was true years ago that an URL entered into the Web Address text field at Account Settings would be attached to a member’s comments “in the forums,” as indicated in the Web Address section of the Account Settings support page. Today, I’m finding that on every support forum topic checked, each commenter’s thumbnail is linked to their forum profile. So the line that needs editing is the following:

    The web address will be the link used for your Public Display Name when you leave comments on WordPress.com sites or in the forums.

    Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

    Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?

    @aleone89,

    By following a comment trail from the site https://justafewmusings.wordpress.com/ to the site of another member, I was able to find that @isabellaallen2014’s public display name is linked to an old inactive WordPress.com site with a few 2005 posts, and none since then. Seems like a “wrong URL in the Account Settings > Web Address field” error to me.

    @musicdoc1, I think you’re right. @isabellaallen2014, please follow the steps that @musicdoc1 shared in their previous reply. Once you’ve added your site address into your Account Settings, it’ll be linked to your profile.

    I’m finding that on every support forum topic checked, each commenter’s thumbnail is linked to their forum profile.

    Thanks for pointing that out, @musicdoc1, we’ll probably need to update that bit.
