a different top post list

It would be nice if it were possible to have a list of clickable “Author’s Choice” in the sidebar.
The posts that generate hits are not necessarily the ones I would have wanted to succeed. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Those ARE the ones that did succeed though for whatever reason.
Why not make your own “Author’s Choice” using a text widget? See the first couple offerings on this search: http://support.wordpress.com/?s=text+widget
-
!!! But you’d have to be an old cynic!
After all, it is easy to calculate that if I wrote an illustrated post about how those people in Pompeii died when Vesuvius erupted, I’d get quite a few hits. Or if I knew something startling to say about Michelle Obama.
However, in the long run….?
……………………………….I don’t know what that “Author’s Choice” is that you mention. Thanks a lot. It could of course be exactly what I mean.

Off topic:
You help here a lot! You once helped me recover my “Bridges” post, I remember, which I had been re-re-re-re-editing until it simply disappeared and you told me to go quick and find it at Google.
-
You mentioned and “author’s choice” widget. What I was saying is that there isn’t one, but you could build your own using a text widget and put links to your choices into the text widget.
-
*kof! I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but there seems to be some kind of rating system on the Support docs. Look at the bottom here http://support.wordpress.com/getting-started/#resources-for-blogging-beginners
-
uh, there was a continuation of that, being I wonder if this is one of those extras that’s going to be implemented on wp.com somewhere along the way…
-
I did not know that you could have links in a text widget! [In fact, I thought it might be possible and tried, but when it failed I simply concluded that it could not be done.]
Thank you again.

To Yarnaholic:
I think what you are looking for is here:
-
Why not create a category as “Author’s Choice” then embed a RSS widget into your sidebar linking to feed “http://yourblog.wordpress.com/category/authors-choice/feed/” or whatever the category name is. That’s what I prefer to do in most similar occasions.
You’ll certainly have to edit all your posts of your choice to select that category (in this case “author’s choice”) to show up on your rss feed.
-
Thank you qaan (funny nick! good idea! ), but now I tried out the suggestion of “sacredpath” and it worked right away.
-
This:
is an awesome idea. Thanks qaan.
-
It is indeed a great idea. The only drawback is that you can’t reorder the RSS list, so the most recent posts tagged with that category would show up in the widget, not necessarily the ones most interested by the author to promote. Just sayin’…
-
…if all you want is an “Author’s Favourite” list just put the URLs into a text widget. You can add text describing in as much detail as you like why people would read your favourite posts, and you can have as many as you’d like and even add images to illustrate them.
