A dormant domain hosted on WordPress.com
-
My university has recently been made aware of a site that was built outside our domain but that describes content about our academic programs (or what those programs were like in 2014). According to WhoIs, this domain (https://adultstudentlife.com/) appears to be hosted on wordpress.com. We have been unable to contact the owner/admin of this domain or the technical contact for the website. Since this website has not been updated in a decade and contains outdated and inaccurate information about our academic programs, we would like to inquire about the possibility of having this website removed from WordPress.com or at least get contact information for the site admin so we can begin a dialog with them about this dormant website. We don’t have WordPress Pro so apparently we can’t get help from them directly. Any suggestions?

Hello @jkotarsk! Thanks for letting us know about this,
For privacy reasons, we’re unable to share any information about another user’s account. That said, if the site hasn’t been updated in many years and has outdated academic information, you can request to make the site private by emailing us at help@wordpress.com with all the relevant details so our team can take a closer look. You can read more about that option here:

Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to assist you. -
As that site is on a paid plan, you can use the Transaction ID to restore access to the account owning that site and domain – https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership

The option @staartmeesmentioned is also correct. However, to proceed, you’ll need to locate the transaction ID from any purchase made on the account. To find it, you’ll need to check the bank or card statement associated with the payment or contact the account owner directly. This guide explains how to locate the transaction ID:
https://wordpress.com/support/billing-history/#find-your-transaction-id-in-wordpress-com
Once you have it, you can email us at help@wordpress.com, or follow the steps in our account recovery guide here:
https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership
That way, if you’re able to find a transaction ID or any of the documentation needed for the account recovery method, you’ll be able to regain access to your account.
