A drastic increase in spam comments

    I used to check and clear my spam comments tab once in two days manually. Then one or two spam comments would be there. But recently there is a drastic increase in spam comments. Today 175 comments are there. I have to delete them altogether as it’s tough to check one by one. So some valid comments also would be deleted. In addition, what makes me alert is the drastic reduction of comments in my blogs too though nothing have changed recently.

    Hi there, thanks for letting us know. Other users have reported this as well.

    What is important is that if those spam comments are in your Spam folder, then Akismet is doing its job. Any comment in the spam folder will be automatically deleted after 30 days or when you hit the Empty Spam button.

    However, if you find those comments in your Pending approval folder, please mark those comments as spam and not delete them. Marking them as spam teaches Akismet to recognize them and will begin to send them automatically to the spam folder in the future. Thanks.
