a fantastic morning

    Good morning!

I tried to edit one of my old posts today but was unable to.
Post in question: https://dailyflabbergast.wordpress.com/2020/02/10/when-in-rome-a-guide-to-getting-arrested-abroad/ can’t edit the post. Every time I try to edit, I get the “Updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post.” message.

Also, when I tried to reach out to a Happiness Engineer/ reach out to Support via https://wordpress.com/help/contact I get a message ‘this method is not allowed.’

Is this just bad luck on my part today or are you trying to drive your audience away on purpose/make them pay for higher tier subscriptions?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, There is an open issue with the developers for this https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/52209

The recommendation is to clear your browser cache and cookies and/or try with a different browser. If you are eligible for direct support with a WordPress.com upgrade plan, it might also solve the additional error message you received.

Let us know if that solves this for you. If not, please post back here with the browser and version you’re using as well as your OS. Thanks.

Email and live chat support are offered on different paid plan levels, but using that form should have allowed you to make a new post here to the support forums from there on a free account.

Every time I try to edit, I get the “Updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post.” message.

There is an open issue with the developers for this – https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/52209 – but we’ll need a little more information from you to help narrow down the cause of this.

Could you visit this page and provide us with the link it generates for you under “Share this with your support team! Just send them the link below”?

    https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/

Once we have that we’ll add your incident to that open issue.

    Thanks!

Clearing my browser cache and cookies does not solve the issue.
I tried Microsoft Edge and was able to edit the post without an issue.

but using that form should have allowed you to make a new post here to the support forums from there on a free account.

Well, it didn’t. I had to use the power of Google and my own memory to remember that forums exist and I could try posting my question here. It was very hard for me to navigate my way here, let alone a newbie…

  • Hi there,

That error message you are receiving when trying to reach us is unusual. When you visit http://wordpress.com/contact is this what you see?

And if so, are you receiving the this method is not allowed message when attempt to click ask an expert?

Thanks for the link. We added your issue to the Github report and will keep you updated once we receive them from the internal developers.

    Thanks again!

When you visit http://wordpress.com/contact is this what you see?

No, I see three categories (‘get started,’ ‘report,’ ‘suggest’)
I tried it several times this morning and only one seemed to go through, but I couldn’t replicate it.
I gave it a go now and it seemed to go through. Maybe cleaning the cache helped somehow.

Is that form correct and working as far as you know?

  • There have not been any reports of an issue with the contact form. I was going to suggest clearing the cache as that has solved the issue with other users who have reported contact form access issues in the past.

However, please let us know if you do receive that error again and we’ll look further into it.

    Thanks,
