A few issues with WordPress
-
Hello everyone from Gamenology:
I am having a few issues with my WordPress experience.
1. You know you can rate posts right out of 5 stars right? But on my site I can also thumbs up and down on comments! But I don’t see the thumbs up/down on any other site. See some of the comments at http://wp.me/p3GYxn-2j and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
2. Every single day I keep getting spam comments. Most of them are about my SEO and some are useless unrelated long stories. I KNOW HOW TO GET ME SITE ONTO GOOGLE, I DID ALL THIS WEBMASTER STUFF and I STILL get these comments, which services you have to PAY for. I put up a BIG notice saying to use my Contact Form instead but it didn’t work.
Also, when I comment on other posts on other blogs, my comment does not appear.
Please help me ASAP.
Thank you.

I’d suggest you mark the comments on the post you sited: they are spam comments!
Comments like these, vague and unrelated to the topic of your post, are spam. Rather than answer them, you should mark them as spam. By answering them, the spammers realize that they have a “live one” and will sell your information to other spammers. Before you know it, you’re drowning in spam offering you bogus SEO services, git ritch quik schemes, and products to increase whatever body part.
This is really interesting, You are a very skilled blogger.…
Excellent blog right here! Also your website quite a bit
up fast! …Hi there! I understand this is somewhat off-topic however …I

I don’t answer these ‘SEO’ comments. I just Delete them. They are in Spam folder automatically.
What about No. 1 answer?

1.
But I don’t see the thumbs up/down on any other site.
It’s up to the site owner to decide whether to use or not any rating system on their site, posts, pages and/or comments.
So, what exactly is your support question?
2.
They are in Spam folder automatically.
If they are already in the Spam folder, then why, as 1tess has pointed out, do they appear on your site?
If you unspam lots of spam comments by approving them or marking them as not spam, your site may be in danger of suspension.

Akismet is generally very good about recognizing spam and will put spam in the spam folder, here are some resources that you will want to read to educate yourself to recognize spam comments that may make it into your regular comments:
5 things every blogger should know about spam:

Those innocuous comments are also spam. They need to be marked as spam or they will lead to the worse sort of spam.
dashboard—>settings—>ratings—>choose: posts, pages, or comments

1. Oh now I get it! Didn’t see the settings properly.
2. These comments, according to my Comment Policy (which I will put up soon) are not spam. What I call spam is long stories and random stuff that relate nothing. Asking questions about my blog is OK. Some are acceptable.

The Akismet spam filter is enabled on every WordPress.com site. Every time you approve a spam comment that Akismet has marked as spam, you not only white list those comments on your site you teach Akismet that these “commenters” are not spammers.
Read those links I gave above now and educate yourself so that you can make an informed “comment policy”.

@justjennifer
I unspammed your comments (sorry it took so long: my internet connection was experiencing a senior moment).Ironic in this discussion about spam that your posts were spammed, isn’t it?
-
2. Well that’s up to you which comments you approve. But be sure to check their links before approving them.
Please read justjennifer’s links.

I know everything about comment moderation. I spent hours reading almost every support article there is :P
I am not talking about these comments at all. Just these SEO they start with
Hello Web Admin. I noticed some issues with your SEO
something like that. Many of these comments start with these.
Also I hardly get any comments anyway.

I know everything about comment moderation
And yet you’ve unspammed comments which are clearly marked spam. From the same page you linked to above:
Hi there!
Sorry for the late reply. For some reason this was marked Spam and I don’t get notified about spam comments
You are incorrect that the only spam comments refer to SEO. But, as 1tess said, it’s your choice, just be aware of the consequences.
Best wishes.

@Jen
I don’t know about immunity. You know, even I get marked as spam sometimes. It seems to be random. I believe most / all of the regular volunteers have been white-listed but this is my wacky theory: if you happen to post at the same time as an actual spammer then you also get spammed. And you know what? I also believe in the tooth fairy… -
As justjennifer said:

Some spam comments appear to be innocuous, harmless, inoffensive, non-toxic, safe, unobjectionable. But you need to retain some skepticism about who you allow into your “house.” A wolf in sheeps’ clothing is still a wolf. Some strangers are dangerous. A vague comment, not related to the post content most likely is a spammer who is phishing for a “live one” to sell your information to the more disgusting fellow spammers.
