A few questions

    Hi,

    I’ve got a few questions.

    1) Is it possible to move to WordPress.org without losing things like stats and Google rankings?

    2) I exported my site to XML and it’s way over 42.2 MB—way over the maximum file size of 8 MB. I can’t use WXR Split because I use a mac and Wine doesn’t work. What do I do?

    3) If I don’t/can’t move to WordPress.org, is it possible to change the article & widget headings to h2 or h3 instead of h1? I understand that it’s bad SEO practice to have more than one H1.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

If you’re finding your export file too big to use, you can break it up by going to posts or pages and doing exports by date range, and then importing each of these files separately.

If your WordPress.org site has an active Jetpack connection to the same WordPress.com account as your blog here, we can transfer your stats and followers to your new self-hosted blog.

When you move your site, there will be a little downtime, but if you have a custom domain and/or purchase the site redirect, you should have no more than a short downturn in your overall site visits as the domain records propagate to point visitors to your new site.

We have more information about moving a blog, including our Guided Transfer option, here:
