A Few Questions about the Panel Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    1) Is there any way to make the comic start at the beginning, instead of the latest post?

    2) Is there a specific resolution/dimension we should use when we upload? Right now, it looks small and hard to read.

    3) I am noticing that only SOME pages have the “next” button at the bottom. This completely destroys the flow of the pages. How do I get “next” on every comic book page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Howdy redemptionwebcomic!

    1) I just checked you already set up your Comic on the instead of the latest post.

    2) If you look into your Panel Theme Page
At the bottom of the page you will see sizes under the section Quick Specs, which will help you to enable the sizing.

    3) To manage your Comics Navigation this could be helpful ,
you might have to login to the Wp admin to be able to manage it
    use the link redemptionwebcomic.wordpress.com/wp-admin
and here is the support document to help you with it

Hope this helps, let us know for any further questions..!

    Pavanraheja,

Thanks for the replies. Some clarification might be needed on my part.

    1) I meant is there a way to make the comic start at page one instead of the latest comic that I posted? That is my fault for not realizing the term “comic” and “post” are not interchangeable in this case. What I meant was, I wanted the comic book to start at the first comic posted. However, I don’t think that is necessary since people can just hit the “first” button and then proceed until they get to the last page.

    2) I realized the sizing options after I posted. Thanks for pointing it out.

    3) I already was logged into the wp-admin section of the site, which is how I was able to add the comics. I have seen the navigation buttons under the comic. However, what I am saying is that it loads the pages all out of order.

For example, I have loaded REDemption pages 01 and 02. However, instead of it showing the LATEST page I uploaded (02), it shows 01. Then, instead of there being a NEXT button, there is FIRST, PREV, RANDOM and LATEST.

I click on FIRST, it takes me to page 02…but I uploaded page 01 first.

When I click LATEST, it takes me to page 01.

The video tutorial you included is not working on the computer I am currently using, so I don’t know if there are answers there. In the meantime, I’d appreciate any advice you have about the issue I am facing.

I have currently uploaded 3 pages.

Right now, page 02 shows up as first.

Page 01 shows up when I hit next. Then there is no more next button.

When I hit LATEST, I get page 03.

I don’t understand why they aren’t showing up in the order I upload them.

I have been tinkering around with it, and this is what I find.

*I have 5 images to upload.
*When I upload them, the last image is in fact displaying as the LATEST image.
*I hit FIRST, and sure enough it takes me back to the first image (which is the cover of the comic book).

However, here is the issue: After the cover image, a reader should be able to hit the NEXT button to move on to the next page…but NONE of the uploads have a “NEXT” button at the bottom.

    Welcome to REDemption

Where is the NEXT button??? This is incredibly frustrating.

    Hey again redemptionwebcomic..!
So there is one way you can set the Front page to a Static Page and set the page you want it, you can use this guide to help you with it
    Static Front Page

So yeah, I noticed it, WordPress takes the last one as Latest, so just do this Re-Upload all of them, Upload Page 03 first, Page 02 second and Page 01 last. Let me know how it goes, As WordPress shows Latest Posts first, it should not be the case with Comics .

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes, would be happy to assist you further..!

    Hi again!
Just read you message , the Cover Page does have the Next Button , here is the Screen shot https://cloudup.com/cx_9Eb4DN5M,
are you facing the problem ?

Let me know, if you have further questions..!

    Regards

What’s weird is when I uploaded in the proper order (going from the cover to the last page), I did not have a NEXT button on a single page.

Took the cover out…and all the NEXT buttons came back.

Plus if you click FIRST and then “next” your way through, everything seems to be in proper order now.

If there are any further problems, I will be back. :-)

    One last thing…for now.

I wanted to set the site up so that the comic book and the comic book ONLY would be on the main page, and any blogs/articles I wrote would be on a different page.

It turns out that, while the blogs are in fact loading to the page called “REDemption: The Blog,” they are also appearing under the comic book on the static front page too.

Is there any way to change that?

Also, the URL for the page with the blog on it is currently:

    https://redemptionwebcomic.wordpress.com/the-comic/

I tried adjusting the URL to say “/redemption-the-blog,” but it still shows up as above. Does it take some time for the new URL to show?

    Howdy redemptionwebcomic!
I am sorry for reverting back late, have been tied up in something..!

I wanted to set the site up so that the comic book and the comic book ONLY would be on the main page, and any blogs/articles I wrote would be on a different page.

So to manage your Front Page Featured Section, you could just mark some of the posts or pages as Featured and only they would appear, probably just set one page with minimal content so it can appear, as no posts on the Front Page..!
Here is the guide from your theme page

You can feature specific posts on Panel‘s home page following these steps:

Tag any posts you want to feature with a specific Tag of your choosing (i.e., “Featured”).
Navigate to Customize → Featured Content and type in the Tag name you chose in Step 1.
Save your settings, and your selected posts now appear on the home page.
If no Featured Content is selected, your latest posts will be displayed in this area.

    Your second question
`It turns out that, while the blogs are in fact loading to the page called “REDemption: The Blog,” they are also appearing under the comic book on the static front page too.

In your Menu it must be set to Custom Link of Front page so all the blogs appear there, you can manage them by setting the Menu to a Custom URL Link item and set the Home page, you can set it up for any page you would like here is more information to manage your
    <a href="https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/">Custom Menu</a>
Also if you would like to set up specific blogs to specific pages as well , then this could be useful <a href="https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/">Cateogry Pages</a>

Also, the URL for the page with the blog on it is currently:

    https://redemptionwebcomic.wordpress.com/the-comic/

I tried adjusting the URL to say “/redemption-the-blog,” but it still shows up as above. Does it take some time for the new URL to show?
