A few questions on SELA

  • Unknown's avatar

    1. Is there a way to upload a .jpg in place of the translucent square on the home page?

    2. We’ve so far only uploaded “pages” because we can’t figure out with the Sela theme where “posts” would actually show up on the current layout we have?

    3. How do we decrease the font for the headers we have placed over the 3 galleries in the footer? Can we decrease that font?

    4. Can we enable a “read more” feature on the testimonials?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    1. Is there a way to upload a .jpg in place of the translucent square on the home page?

    That is possible with custom CSS. If you could upload the .jpg you want to use into your media library and let me know which one it is, I can give you the code you need to make that work.

    2. We’ve so far only uploaded “pages” because we can’t figure out with the Sela theme where “posts” would actually show up on the current layout we have?

    Since you have a static front page, you also need to designate a page for your posts to appear. You can learn more about how that works here:

    Set the Homepage

    You can also create pages that show only posts from a specific category. Here’s how that works:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

    3. How do we decrease the font for the headers we have placed over the 3 galleries in the footer? Can we decrease that font?

    Here’s the code you need for that. I chose 19px, but obviously you can go up or down from there.

    .wf-active .front-widget-area .widget-title {
    	font-size: 19px
    }

    4. Can we enable a “read more” feature on the testimonials?

    You should be able to use the “more” tag in a testimonial the same way you would use it in a post. Here’s more info on how that works:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

    Let me know if you have any more questions!

    Thank you so much for this great really! We were able to make many changes.

    1. Is there any way to organize the page that is created when someone clicks a “category” – such as “hotels” under “paradise found” – is there a way to customize the look of that “page” rather than just chronological scrolling of posts?

    2. If you look at our site – bottom right – for The Traveler Series – you will see links to other pages. These pages do not have sub-categories that we can use to automatically categorize our posts to show up on that page. Is there a way to make a “page” and “category” also?

    Thank you!!!

    Not really. Those pages are auto generated by the theme so you don’t have a lot of options. That having been said, you can also display posts from a category using the display posts shortcode. Here’s more info on how that works.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/

    You might like those options better.

    I’m not sure I understand what you are asking, but that widget is the Custom Menu widget. You can use it to display a menu you control the same way you control your site’s main menu. You can read more about it here:

    Thanks again for all your help! We are making great progress…

    1. I figured out how to add my own custom photo overlay on the photo so I need to remove the overlay that is built into the template – how do I do that?

    2. We like the fonts on the site – but would like to play around with making a few darker/larger… What is the font for the items in the footer widgets?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Also, is it possible to change the color of the photo gallery so when it pops up, the background is another color other than black?

    .front-page-content-area .with-featured-image{
    	display:none;
    }

    The easiest way to change the fonts is through the font tab in the customizer. Here’s more info on how that works:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/

    If changing everything together doesn’t work for you we can use CSS to make changes to specific areas. Just let me know exactly which areas you want to change and how they should be different.

    Also, is it possible to change the color of the photo gallery so when it pops up, the background is another color other than black?

    That one is tricky, but try this and see what you think:

    .jp-carousel{
    	background: white;
    }

    Those answered worked – thanks! I just noticed in the gallery that it is pulling info from the photo such as size, camera, etc. This is not important to our clients and clutters the site – how do we remove that so only the photo on a white background pops up?

  • Unknown's avatar

    See how you like this:

    div.jp-carousel-info{
    	display: none;
    }
  • Unknown's avatar

    That removed the excess text… the bottom section is still black – anything we can do?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Try this:

    div.jp-carousel-overlay{
    	background:white;
    }
  • Unknown's avatar

    This worked! But is there a way to get the caption that we’ve attached to each photo to still show? The gallery is just showing the photos, not the captions. Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

    Font question – when we play around with fonts, we don’t seem to have control over the main menu headers just under the site logo – they don’t change. Is there CSS to change the font for this section?

    Did the captions show before we started messing with the slideshow CSS?

    The menu font is controlled with the body font. It also has a text-transform on it so it shows up in all caps. What kind of change were you hoping for there?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, the caption did show…

    I will test fonts before I sent more info.

    This is the piece of code that is blocking the comments:

    div.jp-carousel-info {
    	display: none;
    }

    If you remove it, the comments will come back–likely with some other info that you don’t want.

    If you’d like to find a way to keep the comments, and remove the other info you don’t want, I recommend you post your question over in the CSS forum. We have great staff and volunteers over there who know more about CSS than I. They should be able to get you fixed up.

    Here’s a direct link to where you can start a new CSS thread:

    Thanks so much. Going to go write to the CSS forum – thanks.

    Sorry – me again! Not sure is these questions need to go to you or CSS forum – but if you look at our homepage, we have 3 galleries under the main photo and for some reason, even though we have 5 photos in each gallery, they are showing as different sizes and it is throwing the home page off balance.

    Also, is there a way to change the font in the twitter widget to Arimo -1 to match the rest of the footer body text?

    I know I’ve seen this somewhere – but how can we keep our same page layout on the homepage and add a section for ” recent posts” that would appear as thumbnails + summaries of the top 4-5 most recent posts?

    THANK YOU!

    but if you look at our homepage, we have 3 galleries under the main photo and for some reason, even though we have 5 photos in each gallery, they are showing as different sizes and it is throwing the home page off balance.

    The way the tiled galleries work, that’s going to be hard to fix. You might try one of the other gallery styles to see if they work for you. If that doesn’t work, you might need more or fewer images in some of the galleries to make them work out visually.

    Also, is there a way to change the font in the twitter widget to Arimo -1 to match the rest of the footer body text?

    You can double check in the CSS forum but because that text is being pulled over from Twitter, I don’t believe you can change the font using your CSS here.

    Do you want this to appear on your homepage? If so, you might be able to do it using the display posts shortcode in a text widget, but I’m concerned you wouldn’t have enough space to make the thumbnail and the post excerpt look good.

    If you just mean you want a page linked in your menu with that info, then it’s a lot easier. Here’s info on how the display posts shortcode works:
