A few suggestions about the upcoming 2.7 upgrade here
-
@lettershometoyou: The link to wp.com is available when you hover over “My Account”, as it was before, also as a direct tab at the bottom of the page. As for the forum, why don’t you just bookmark it in the bookmarks bar of your browser?
-
Version 2.7 is working like an absolute dream for me! So far, it’s totally wonderful! Thanks, WordPress!!
-
(TIMETHIEF! (((hugs))) )
“Visit Site” by clicking on your blog’s name at the top left.
Wish there was an integral way to get to my other 4 dashboards rather than by using the AdminBar.
Still poking around and already missing “possibly related topics” in the new Support.
-
The Support site will be going through some major changes and updates in the coming weeks.
-
Thanks, Nick. I hoped that would have read “coming week”. I’m kinda lost in there at the moment.
And, oh wow! You can finally remove your WP.com avatar without having to upload a blank image! Woot!
(What you’re seeing is my default Gravatar. http://en.gravatar.com/ )

So I found the “visit site” path from the Dashboard, thanks to the forum : it’s a hidden link under the blog title in the black bar across the top.
My wife is a web designer, we talk about what makes a web page user-friendly all the time. One of the things you never never do if you care for your users is hide the links. Every bit of text that is also a link should be underlined, or in a button, to distinguish it from dead text in some other way. This is design 1.0.1. If you don’t do this, you are asking a user to scan over the whole screen with the mouse to see what goes active. You are telling your users ‘your time doesn’t matter to us.’
The same goes for the toggle that is concealed on the right hand side of the grey bars at the top of each sub-window. Why does it have to be invisible?
Really guys: you’ve made an interface that requires familiarity to use, when basic good procedures would make the same layout self-evident.
I would like to be able to choose a 2-column layout, with the stuff that is now in the narrow column on the left placed instead in a bar across the top. If we are really stuck with a 3-column layout, then make the middle column wider, for the stats. As it is, the stats is so narrow that the information is pressed down the screen, and the information below the graph is jumbled in short lines. The “view all” button has disappeared off the bottom of the screen (why not put it in the grey bar on the top of this sub-window?)
I hate it

You can collapse the left hand navigation bar so that it only shows the icons, effectively giving only a 2-column layout.

1) When I try to find my drafts, for example clicking on “Articles” and then on “drafts”, the page it’s empty and I can’t select or modify to my drafts. (this means that I can’t edit my drafts directly?!)
2) The new feature “fast reply” for answer to a post written by one of my readers is limited. This because there’s only a few preview about the content of the post and I have to visit my article page in any cases for understand the full content of the reader’s post.
For all the rest… it’s so awesome guys!

Hello,
After i have filtered the category post in Edit Posts, Is there a way to select all at once and change them all at the same time?
Thank you! -
@neclord1000, the drafts problem was a bug and should now be fixed. See: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/drafts-showing-up-as-stats?replies=11
@butindaro, I’m not sure what you are asking (or how it relates to this thread). Are you trying to change the category of multiple posts? I’m pretty sure you still can’t do this, even in 2.7.
-
Batch operations don’t look to be quite finished.
Now that I’ve effectively deleted my WP.COM avatar, the dashboard keeps reminding me to upload one. >sound of hand smacking forehead< Guys, I’m using my Gravatar! Do I need to let it know somewhere?
-
@senmcglinn-have you been following the interface development at all over the past few months? Do you know that you can completely customize the interface?
Have a look:
WordPress 2.7 Feature Preview: Customizable Post Editing Screen
-
@rosclarke, I’m referring to Batch editing functionality, i want to select all checkboxes (in the left column) of the posts i want to edit at one time, not one by one.
-
I believe that senmcglinn’s makes some great points. It’s great that we can customize since we know how to do it. But 2.7 does not appear to be user-friendly to those who aren’t experienced bloggers. While those who visit the forums regularly continue to pat themselves on the back and kiss up to wordpress and chide those who don’t like the new platform, there’s many who don’t even know how to get to the forums, let alone contact support (unless they figure out to click on the help icon). Some are saying bookmark the forum. Why the hell should we have to do that. How would an inexperienced blogger know how to find support or forums in order to bookmark it anyhow????? Personally, I don’t think 2.7 sucks. But, I don’t see where the hype and hoopla is either. It was just fine the way it was. But, I have no problem with the change. I do know that many of my wordpress friends are freaking out. I’ve been helping them (since they can’t figure out how to contact support or get to the forums).
-
Not sure what the hoopla about finding the links is, but what is the first thing one looks for when seeking help? Help! The link is very visible at the top right hand.
-
Well, Arif – I can only go by the 20 people who’ve emailed me. The point is why fix something that ain’t broken. There’s stylizing and then there’s stylizing. It used to say forum and support, which is what those who DON’T VISIT FORUMS or SUPPORT regularly were accustomed too. If one looks at this thread, MOST of those commenting are people who visit the forums regularly. Where are all the rest of the people, if help is so CLEAR?
-
You got bunch of separate points:
– why fix something that is not broken, well, did you read Matt’s post? This one, and particularly this. Companies loose business when they don’t change, change is important to sustain.
– there are perhaps two types of people who visit forums and support, those who are seeking help and those who are helping (volunteers). Both of these types can easily find the Help link. Those who are not visiting the forums most likely don’t need help.
As far as I am concerned, I commented on Matt’s thread that this is one of the most well executed change I have seen anywhere. It was well researched, well implemented and executed with ample signs and education for everyone in advance. Even within last twenty four hours there was a countdown. Things doesn’t get better than this.
-
Arif, WordPress is gonna lose money if they didn’t switch a Forum’s tab to Help?????? I read Matt’s post. Once again, though, not EVERYONE follows everything WordPress says as clearly you and I (and others on this thread) do. There are forum groupies, and that’s what is represented on this thread. Where are the people who actually need help?
-
I’ve seen a lot of new people on the forum today who have obviously managed to find it without too much trouble. (Actually, I could never remember where it was in the old system – I think ‘Help’ is pretty intuitive as a link). And in general I am surprised at how little fuss there has been about the transition. There were a few genuine bugs which have already been resolved, and mostly the rest is just minor stuff (and general whining).
I think WP.com have done a good job both with the new system and with managing the process.
