a free URL is said to be taken

  Hi there,
  I’d like to register luftundliebe.wordpress.com and get the message that it would be taken. But if you type in the URL https://luftundliebe.wordpress.com/ in the browser you will get the message “luftundliebe.wordpress.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.”

  Therefore my question: Is there a possibility for a “reset” from your site to make the URL available again?

  Nope. Deleted is deleted forever. Pick a new name.
