A link to a post that doesn’t exist on a page

I don’t exactly know how to describe this, but here goes. I’ve got a post that I only want to be see (visible?) via an internal link. I’ve tried it, but it ain’t working. You can see what I mean by following this path:

http://stepanczuk.wordpress.com >> Journal >> navigate half way down to the “open letter to Pair.com” link >> click.

See what I mean? But on that same page there’s Categories >> Uncatagorized link. Click that Uncatagorized link & you can find the “open letter to Pair.com” content.

Question: Why doesn’t the “open letter to Pair.com” link from the Journal page work?

Question: What can I do to fix it?

The link doesn’t work because you’ve written it all wrong (writing an URL that’s from your dashboard and includes something about “press this”). The URL you should have used is http://stepanczuk.wordpress.com/2008/10/19/openlettertopair/. So you go to the visual post editor, delete the phrase you’ve written, write it again, highlight it, click the link button and paste that URL there.

If you don’t want that post to be accessible via the sidebar, you must remove the categories widget. If you do need that widget, you’ll have to turn that post into a PAGE and assign it to a parent page so that it won’t show up in your header.

Note: don’t copy this URL from here, as it’s a live link already: go to that post and copy the URL from the address bar of your browser.

    Hi panaghiotisadam,

I would ask your advice on a similar issue (sorry for my english!). I would like put my photos in my blog, like an album. Until now, I have put any photo in one different post. I would like that the first bolg’s page shows just one photo at a time and on the right, among the widgets, I would put all the internal links to the other posts, as one can decide which photo the page has to display. The problem I noticed is that when I add a new post, the URL of the last posts in the adress bar changes, because the post’s adresses have a numeric index, and the latest post is always the number 1. All the links I made, they become obsolete when I add a new post (the numer 1 becomes number 2, the number 2 becomes 3, etc.). There is a solution?

    Thank you very much
    Sara

@Sara: Post URLs don’t change. To clear things up we need to see what you are talking about, so we need a link to your blog.

Hey, Thanx. But now there’s some weird unwanted stuff at the bottom of that post. When I go to edit, I cannot seem to remove it. What gives?

Your post ends with the references, and I don’t see anything weird below them. Perhaps you corrected it in the mean time.

By the way, bibliography lists are officially written in what is called “hanging indentation”. Try this for each reference (in the html editor):
    <p style="margin-left:.4in;text-indent:-.4in">COMPLETE_REFERENCE_TEXT_HERE</p>
