A list of recent odd faults doing my blogging using ‘Tewnty Ten’…
-
I have being doing this blogging lark for over ten years now, and over the past couple of weeks it has suddenly gone, in different ways, rather messy, and annoying to use.
1. Adjusting the size of a photo in the blog during composing, (this is using Firefox or Chrome) it seems to not work, but any changes that you try to make, do finally show up on the published page – how very odd!
2. Adding a link to a word of ‘Classic’ text. When trying to paste the thing to the word, it quickly flashes on and off in its brackets, and won’t accept the link. It seems to work when everything is then switched to ‘Blocks’ though.
3. When you have ‘saved’ a draft, say, halfway through a long bit of writing – before all this, it would, when you next go to the Dashboard, you find your ‘saved’ piece in a box at the bottom of the page.
No more. No box – go and find the piece, somewhere – if you can!
4. When writing and using ‘Classic’, the buttons ‘Save Draft’ and ‘Preview’ at the top of the page are missing – but if you click onto your title (which is in Blocks?) they sometimes come back.
I was wondering if changing from ‘Twenty Ten’, which do like a lot, to another ‘Theme’ (what an odd word), would make any difference to all this messiness.
I am still managing to do stuff, though – I think I’m gradually getting used to all this messing about. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh, and forgot to mention the not working (pale blue) ‘Publish’ button.
Now, that is annoying! -
Howdy –
Thanks for taking the time to share detailed information with us! Before we dive too deeply, I want to know which version numbers you’re using in those browsers.
The next thing is to work through these tips on browser troubleshooting:

Hello, and thank you for responding!
I use Firefox – 116.0.3 (32 bit) which has just updated.
I almost never use Chrome.
Well, I just looked at your ‘How to use Common Browser Issues, etc.’.
It looks complicated and awful to do – I am sorry, but I’m not really a ‘Computer-Person’.
I will do some more ‘tests’ on the issues I mentioned, and I’ll get in touch if anything changes.

Hi there,
I just wanted to add that since you are using Mozilla Firefox as your browser here is a more detailed list of how you can clear cache and cookies:
- Clear your cache and cookies based on the steps Firefox recommends here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox
- Also make sure you are not blocking any “3rd party cookies” as explained in this guide as well: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-say-cookies-are-blocked-unblock-them#w_check-sites-that-are-blocked-from-setting-cookies

This is a separate issue that is not related to your browser, and one that our developers have pushed a recent fix for. That fix may not reach you immediately but you should see the editor view reflect the changes correctly (as you noted the live view correctly showed size modifications) thanks!
I was wondering if changing from ‘Twenty Ten’, which do like a lot, to another ‘Theme’ (what an odd word), would make any difference to all this messiness.
I am still managing to do stuff, though – I think I’m gradually getting used to all this messing about. If I can be honest, the Twenty Ten theme is getting pretty old (in website years) and was retired from active duty a long time ago. I’d definitely recommend switching to a more modern theme as they tend to have greater compatibility with the block editor, and the most modern themes are constructed entirely of blocks, allowing you to customize them to a very high degree with point and click tools, no code required. Here is an example of a recent webinar where we show how to create a custom header (or several custom headers) using a newer block-based theme:
Also also want to clarify that the classic editor is no longer receiving updates or new features. We do work to maintain compatibility, but everything new were adding is in the block editor. The classic editor tools do work well to maintain compatibility with older themes such as yours, but to get the most out of newer themes, working in the block editor is definitely recommended.
As a nice example of what you can do with the block editor I’d like to recommend another webinar, where we show how to create a custom homepage layout, block by block:
It’s worth noting that those two webinars are companions to one another, so if you can watch them both to see how a custom homepage and a custom header is created on the same site.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Ah, good, I think a lot of my trouble has been that I got into the habit of always using ‘Classic’ (which I liked) for my writing – I think ‘Classic’ is falling to bits.
I must now learn to use the rather messy ‘blocks’ instead…
