A mis-step to avoid in moving posts to new blog

It seems that duplicate links can appear in tag summaries when moving posts to a new blog.

    I did this:
    1. Obtained a new URL
    2. Exported the posts from the old URL to a file
    3. Imported the file to the new URL
    4. Replaced the content at the old URL with “redirect” messages.

Later, I found that the a “tag summary” (as I’ll refer to it for lack of knowledge of its proper name) contained links to both:
    1. The content at the new URL
    2. The redirect message at the old URL

I’m sure that others were frowning at what this newbie had done to clutter the tag summary.

I fixed the duplicate listing problem by deleting all the tags at the old URL.

The duplicates disappeared from the tag summaries immediately, so I assume that the updating software is always watching for tag changes on any post.

The redirect messages are still in place at the old URL for the benefit of those who are following links from elsewhere until:
    1. Those links are updated, or
    2. Search engines become aware of the new URL.

But all posts at the new URL are not appearing on the expected tag summaries.

    My blog is here:
    http://fatherissues.wordpress.com/

All posts do not seem to be listed as expected in the tag summary here:
    http://wordpress.com/tag/father/

Is there something else that I need to do attract the attention of the tag-monitoring routine, such as remove and reapply tags to the posts? Or is there some other reason why the posts aren’t appearing in the tag summary?

As an aside, something curious happened during the process of moving the posts: A comment was generated for each post that was imported. I deleted all those comments.

The way posts are listed on the wordpress.com tag pages is in accord with their original publication time/date stamps. As there are new posts being added every moment you will have to look through several pages to find them.

I also found your latest post on the tag page for “father” so maybe there was a delay that has been rectified now.

    Thanks for looking.

The oldest post from my blog (less than a week old) is also on that page, as well as one other. But six other posts between the first and last are missing. I thought that maybe they got “mis-filed” by time stamp, so I looked through a few pages. I checked as far as here:

    http://wordpress.com/tag/father/5/

where posts are from a month ago. Perhaps they are filed with older posts, but it would seem like something is amiss if they are filed there.

All nine of my posts contain the “father” tag. The first and last posts from my blog are in this page:
    http://wordpress.com/tag/father/

Others seem to be missing for reasons which are unclear to me.

    Thanks for your interest.

Provided those posts do thave the same category “father” assigned then I can’t explain why they are not appearing in the tag pages. I would edit them and be sure there isn’t something “funky” going on with the time/date stamps. If they do not appear by Monday you will have to request staff help by sending in a feedback.

Support will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday while the Automattic crew gathers in San Francisco in preparation for WordCamp 2007. We will re-open Monday morning around 9AM PDT.

I edited each missing post by:
    1. Inserting a line-feed at the end of the post
    2. Deleting it immediately
    3. Saving the “edited” text

That seemed to be enough to attract the attention of the routine which updates the tag pages.

All nine of my posts now appear on

    http://wordpress.com/tag/father/

They also appear over a greater number of pages starting here
    http://wordpress.com/tag/issues/

I assume that all other tags are working as expect now, too.

    Thanks.

WOW! That’s good news. Thanks for posting again and for sharing the fix.
