A new blog about wordpress.com themes
-
Hi,
I just started a blog<a/> with wordpress.com blogs sorted by theme.
I would like to ask your opinion if this would be useful for new bloggers trying to choose a theme.
I am also trying to see if there are common traits of bloggers or subjects who choose the same theme.
Thanks

What would be really useful would be somewhere which listed the themes according to characteristic: no. of columns, customisable header etc.
-
Would it be useful? Perhaps: there have been a few questions recently from members who wanted to see other blogs using a particular theme.
Seeing if there are common traits? With more than four and a half million wp blogs at the moment, a sample of ten blogs or so is absolutely negligible.
-
Is this a good solution? I created a landing page.
Or is it better to have posts so that people can scroll down?
@panaghiotisadam: I am glad to hear that this can be useful. Of course, you are right, the sample is too small, but I just started today. I hope to add more.

I would have one post for each theme, with categories or tags describing their characteristics. Then people looking for say, a three-column theme with customisable header could see which ones would suit them. You could include links to sample blogs using that theme so that people could see what it looks like in practice and how suitable it is for their needs. I wouldn’t look for common traits, exactly, but I would try to find blogs where the content fits the theme well, to give people an idea of what works and what doesn’t.
Also, why is the blog in Sandbox? It really does look awful.

I thought Sandbox was neutral but I see your point. Your site is Sandbox too but you made it look nice.
I just added a bunch of new themes. Probably it will take me few more days to complete.
Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

I now added most of the themes. I welcome any comments and suggestions to improve usability. Thanks.

I’d move the tag cloud (and possibly consider also having a category list) above the list of themes in the sidebar. I think this is the most useful feature of the blog. Thanks for putting in the hard work.
-
Oh, and I would definitely choose another theme (maybe Kubrick?). I understand what you’re saying about being neutral, but Sandbox is just ugly and gives the impression that you haven’t really bothered (when obviously you have put a lot of work into this).

Thanks for both comments. I think you are right about the theme. I tried the Journalist, the newer version. And I moved the tags to the top, I think, much better.
I noticed that the journalist has a nice feature. When I click on a tag in my blog (MistyLook) it lists summaries of each post and links are disabled. The journalist has the full post and the links are active. That’s good, you don’t have to click twice to read about a theme. Also, it has a lot of white space and the thumbnails look better I think.
