A ‘page’ appears in my side column
-
I just switched from a two column “Emire” to a three column “Andreas04” theme and have a problem. One of my pages (my “about” page) appears in column #2 on every page in my blog, including the About page. I’m using Andreas04 and url is http://gain11.wordpress.com any help would be greatly appreciated!

The page option is one of the default widgets for the second column for the Andreas theme. Just put a widget in there to change the default.

I had a (perhaps) similar problem once and found that it was caused by one or more unnecessary <div> commands in my html…
If nothing else works, maybe look through your html and see if all your <div> and </div> code is correct. You can use search (Ctrl F) to make it a bit easier.
Although the first answer seems to make more sense in your situation.

Oh, I looked at your specific theme. That theme is set up to show a page on the right side, above the columns. If you don’t want it there, go to settings—-> Reading and change your front page options.

Thanks for the input, I’m not sure what changes to make in ‘settings’ to rectify the problem. I still want my recent posts to show up on my home page. So if I switch to static pages won’t I have to do some fancy page work to have my recent posts appear as the “home” page? I do have widgets in both columns 2 and 3 but there are currently just stacked on top of each other in what appears to be column 3. So I still can’t figure out how the page got there and why that particular one? Thanks again!

The page got there cuz that’s how that theme is designed. The about page is not a widget. It’s a page that lists where you see it on your blog. If you don’t want it there, go to settings—-> Reading—-> Change front page options. Meaning take off the about page as being listed on the front page.

Have you set a static page? I can’t get past the Contact Us thing to see if you have any posts.

Settings—-> Reading—-> Tick box that displays latest post
In second box which says static page; select nothing. If something is already chosen (contact us, about), click on down arrow and highlight ‘select.’ This will default to no selection. Then save everything. From what you’re asking, I’m taking that you want nothing over there but your 2 column widget? This will clear the about us out, and leave your lastest posts on the front page. Andreas is the only theme which is ‘complicated’ like this. I used to use it, but got frustrated, cuz of this option of the page showing along with most current posts.

Okay, here’s what I have under settings/reading; show recent posts is checked, show static page is not not checked and both drop downs have nothing selected. That’s how it’s been the whole time, hopefully that will help explain why I’ve been so confused. I wonder if I’m better off just switching themes again!
Thanks so much for everyone’s patience!

You don’t need to do anything in your Settings and you don’t need to change the theme you use. Go to Manage Pages, copy your “About” text, delete the “About” page, create a new one and paste the text in it. If you name this new page anything but “About” (e.g. “About this blog”), the text won’t show in your sidebar.
Alternately you can delete the page altogether, go to Design > Widgets, add the Text widget and paste the text in it. Then the text will show in your sidebar only.
Either way you get rid of the redundancy. -
panaghiotisadam, that did it, thank you! I appreciate everyone’s helpful insight.
Thanks,
