A person's comment was approved without my authorization. How did this happen?

A person’s comment was approved without my authorization. The emails I typically receive from WordPress advising me I have a comment pending my approval used HTML elements. I have cut & paste the actual email below:

New comment on your post “Technology is defining our relationships and friendships”

Hi there Glinda, I am in total agreement with you on this. I have to find “gentle” ways to remind my fiancé that technology is no replacement for the good ol telephone call. I have told her, as much as a text is really convenient. I prefer a phone call to a text. You can not really convey your emotions, or fully understand the other persons message when its a flat emotionless text message!
This is where problems will happen due to misunderstanding what a person texted/emailed/skyped or any of those methods V.s. hearing the other persons stress in their voice. A lot of us have gotten too used to the callous/ ease of a text to making a phone call.
When the arguments and fights happen … then the phones will start ringing! All bow to Alexander Graham Bell the creator of the actual telephone as it was FIRST ment to be used.

UPDATE: Okay, so here’s what happened next: I got the auto-reply from WordPress saying “Thank you for your support request. Your public message is posted to the forums so you and other users can see it here:” The BIG problem is, IT CAME BACK IN HTML ELEMENTS TOO! What’s happening here? Is this happening to anyone else?

Do you have the “must have an an approved comment” checked?

No! You’re a gem auxclass! “Your reply reminded me to check those settings and sure enough even though that box WAS previous checked, I found it unchecked!!! Therefore, I am very happy I have escalated this issue to WordPress’s Security Department.

    My sincerest gratitude,
    Nick a.k.a. GlindaTheGoodBitch (A fine WordPress.com site)

    Nick,

As @auxclass indicated, whether or not a comment requires moderation depends on that setting. It appears you have previously approved a comment from this user. By default, “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” is checked, but “An administrator must always approve the comment” is not. This means that until you recently changed these settings, any comments from users with a previously approved comment would not require your moderation.

That is correct, Jonathan, and good to speak with you again! So then, am I correct in assuming I have been hacked since my setting was previously set to approve all comments. Plus, this user posted a comment on a previous occasion and I had to authorize the comment? So how did the setting mysteriously change when I know for a fact I did not change it and no one else has access to my account?

Thanks again, Jonathan. You should be cloned! On another note, I would like to ask you an off-topic question regarding yesterday problem. Would you mind contacting me privately at my email address on record here at WordPress? Thanks.

I dare not mention my blog for “you-know-who” may be lurking about… However, my very best regards (if that’s permitted?)

    GLINDATHEGOODBITCH a.k.a. Nick
