A potential bug: putting GoodReads content to a blog

    I guess there may be a problem with displaying the GoodReads content. I found a solution for my problem but since it looked like a bug, I decided to report it.

    Operating System: Windows 7 Professional
    Browser: Google Chrome 17.0.963.79 m

    Steps:
    1. Have a GoodReads account ready and navigate to your profile page.
    2. Copy the numeric ID from the URL field.
    3. Paste it to your blog’s GoodReads widget on the Widget page.
    4. (Optional) Select a shelf different from the default.
    5. Click Save.
    6. Refresh your blog. The GoodReads widget says there’s nothing to show.
    7. Try copying the numeric ID with the dash.
    8. Repeat steps 3 to 6. See that the shelf info is there.

    Now if I tried to repeat it, it didn’t seem to care that I removed the dash and the books were shown correctly.

    I tried Firefox where I wasn’t logged in. I could still see the widget correctly.

    So it may be something with the delay… OR it’s the first instance of creating the connection and somehow the dash helped me.

    But maybe it has something to do with the browser… or the network.. or… I don’t know. I haven’t tested browser and web stuff (I’m testing an app you install on your computer), so there are plenty of things I miss out on when troubleshooting.

    Also, is the widget supposed to show 4 pages by default? I mean… if I have 95 books on my “read” shelf and it’s showing only 4 pages in the widget (6 books per page), it really only shows 24 books.
    Obviously, the user is meant to click on the widget to be taken to the page but… please reconsider the UI. For instance, it should say how many books are there total on the shelf and then say how many it’s displaying.

    Maybe randomize the order?

    Anyway… I hope this helps.

    I took a look and everything seems to be working properly. Do you also encounter this “bug” from a different computer?

    Goodreads has set their own widget to allow no more than 4 pages. There’s nothing we can do about that. Please contact their support to request that feature.
