A question about grouping pages

    Hello all.

I’ve got many pages. They seem to show in alphabetical order, which is fine. But I’ve got three (and counting) dealing with a single subject, namely ‘Books And Authors I’ve Read’. One includes (1-59), another (60-101) and another (102-). The one I’m working on at present is the (102-), but the order it shows in is second, with something unrelated separating it from the other two entries. I can live with that, but I just happened to notice something called Parent and Children pages. I can’t find a simple enough explanation for how to use this feature. I experimented, but to no avail. I simply made a page called ‘Books And Authors I’ve Read’, thinking I could then move my other entries to it. Could the problem be because that’s the only page I’m deploying as a Parent/Children page?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi there, let’s sidestep the entire Parent/Child relationship because we also have access to Custom Menus which allows you to arrange your pages in whatever hierarchy you need. You can learn more about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

Have a read and come back to us here if you have any other question about this.

I’m lost. I clicked on customize/ menus and expanded menus but was told I don’t have any yet. I guess I could experiment, as long as I don’t save and publish, but after working for so long on what I’ve got, I’m not inclined to fiddle with it, especially when I see WordPress doing strange things. My hits are not those of a celebrity status blog, but I regularly have them in the 20s and 30s now. Being stuck on 3 is highly suspicious. Has WordPress jumped on the fake news bandwagon? I expect it to because it’s big. The State would not ignore WP, which means that WP will either play ball or be attacked. I’ve had odd days before, so maybe that’s what this day is. I’ll find out in another day or so when I see no movement. I get regular emails about people becoming followers of my blog, but my count doesn’t move, or goes down. What’s that?

My interest, besides blogging about deep state evil and hopefully staying off its radar, is not to build something, with menus, from scratch. I’ve already built and just thought that Parent/Child settings might help with one tiny thing I’d like to do.

Hi there, since you haven’t yet created a custom menu, the Customizer is telling you that. No Custom Menu.

If you don’t want to create a Custom Menu, and use page hierarchy instead to change the display order of your pages, you can do that in each page’s “Page Attributes” module. You will have to decide which pages are your Parent/Top Level Pages and then make the other Child/Sub-Pages a Child of one of those Parent/Top Level Pages. Again, this is done in each page’s Page Attributes module. You can also set the display order of those Parent Pages by entering a number in the box provided. More about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-options/

Regarding followers, if those followers have outlook.com email address, this is a known issue and is actively being worked on. Staff are removing the followers directly from your site so you don’t have to.

If you wish, until this current wave of spam followers is over, you can turn off email notifications by changing your settings here: https://wordpress.com/me/notifications Click the arrow on the right and uncheck the box next to Site follows > Email.
