A Question of Comments

    Hello all,

Haven’t been blogging long and I try not to ask a question before reading the FAQ’s and any related threads first but I didn’t see anything about this. I don’t have alot of readers just yet but the few I do have emailed me stating they would like to leave me comments. Thing is they aren’t very keen on having to create a login, password, etc. just to do so. I have searched my dashboard for a way to allow this but have yet to find such. All I see are the usual options in the Comment settings. Nothing there about allowing those that do not have accounts to make comments or to remove that jargon from the blog.

If it falls under the dreaded “security issue for WP” heading, then I understand. If it is a CSS thing, then maybe I can find info about making those changes. If it just can’t be done or I need to switch to .org and there are no plans to allow this with .com at this time, then ok. I would like to be able to allow this though, as I feel it may be part of the reason I don’t have lot of readers yet. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Your blog presently shows that your visitors must be logged in to leave a comment.

To change that, in your Dashboard, under Settings>Discussion, under “Other comment settings” uncheck the box that says “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”.

    Dashboard > Settings > discussion

uncheck mark the option “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”

Then click save changes at the bottom of the screen

You can find the settings key on the right side of your dashboard.

Wow, thanks for the fast responses. I feel dumb now. I looked at that page at least 20 times and didn’t see that until you pointed it out to me. Thanks again.

It’s a no worries situation. Altering the defaults is relatively intermediate or advanced web use.

OK, here is another question. I have received two comments in the last two days. But I cannot view them. It is like they are ghosts or a weird spam. My comments notification says I have 1 comment. But when I go to view it, I don’t see anything but the page it supposedly came from.

Someone is leaving comments on my blog and other blogs posting as me.
My icon shows up as well as the link to my site.
I have moderated comments set up, yet, somehow the person is able to leave comments on my site posing as me (very pornographic in nature) and they are not caught by my spam guard.
It disturbs me that this person is also posting as me on other WordPress blogs and the comments show up with my icon and link.
How do I stop this immediately?
I have changed my password and it still happens.
I would think that the person would have to be logged in to post as me.

vivianpaige, how do I contact support?
    Do you have a link?
I have been trying to find a way to ask WordPress.
I have slow speed so it takes so much time to try and find the link for’support’.
After over two hours I gave up and posted here.
A link would be much appreciated.

Am I missing something, or can we NOT use Bold or Underline etc in comments?

Assuming that you are hosted here at wordpress.COM (a link to your blog would be useful – better would be to link you blog in your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums), then yes, we CAN use those in comments, assuming it is coded into your theme. (Another reason for a link to your blog.)

Thanks, I just found the buttons while editing a comment. Simple HTML code. Thanks.
