A-record DNS nightmare – Please help!!!
-
Hi, I am trying to get my url “ekmcleodphotography.com” to go to my otherwebsite i have made via zenfolio. ive managed to map it so if you type “www.ekmcleodphotography.com” it goes to the right place, but cant get the non “www” address to direct there.
Zenfolio tell me i have to set up a CNAME and an A record but whe i type in the line of code they provide “@ A 64.62.158.18” it doesnt work! This is seriously doing my head in as i have been chasing this around for several days now trying different things to get it to work!
i have just tonight found a few threads like this >>> https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cname-for-pointing-the-domain-to-new-site?replies=3#post-1320676
where it appears i need someone else to do it for me? Help would be greatly appreciated please!!!

Hi there,
If you have both the A record and CNAME records that Zenfolio requires, post that information here and I will update your DNS records for you.

Thank you so much! You’re amazing! Below is all the information zenfolio give as “instructions”.
“How to set up a custom domain
Configuring custom domain is a two step process:
You need to setup a new CNAME record at the place where you registered your domain. Examples of such registrars are Network Solutions, GoDaddy, Register.com, 1&1, Yahoo, and others.
Check with your registrar for the exact procedure but adding a CNAME usually involves editing DNS configuration and pointing a subdomain to custom.zenfolio.com.
For example, to point photos.yourdomain.com to custom.zenfolio.com, you need to create the following CNAME record in yourdomain.com:
photos CNAME custom.zenfolio.com.
If you want your entire domain to go to your Zenfolio pages, you would need to create an A record pointing to our current IP address:@ A 64.62.158.18
The last step is to enable the checkbox above, add your domain name, and Save. If you have created a CNAME for something like photos.yourdomain.com, then you should add above photos.yourdomain.com.The entire process may take up to 48 hours to propagate everywhere, so please be patient.
TIP: If you would like for both yourdomain.com and http://www.yourdomain.com to go to your Zenfolio pages, you need to setup both an A record and a CNAME record, but only http://www.yourdomain.com needs to be entered above. Once you do that, Zenfolio will automatically recognize yourdomain.com as a legitimate address as well.”

Hi there,
Thanks for the information! However, I need the exact CNAME record for your site. Is your account at ekmcleodphotography.zenfolio.com?

Hi there,
It looks like zenfolio does things differently than other sites that require A records. Give this 72 hours to propagate and update across the internet and let me know if things are working or not after that period has elapsed (in the meantime your site may not function on either WordPress.com or Zenfolio).
