A Record/IP

  • Unknown's avatar

I need to get the IP or the a Record of the domaine I registered through WP. Should never have done that, such a hassle to get the information…..

  • Unknown's avatar

WordPress.COM blogs do not have permanent IP addresses. IP addresses here can and do can change over time and your domain may stop working if you rely on them. For more information about domain mapping and IP addresses please read https://en.support.wordpress.com/ip-addresses/

You failed to provide the relevant URL starting with http:// so please do that now.

    Hello!

The domain wrongbrothersinc.com is not registered under your account. This is why you are not seeing it when trying to follow the steps to modify the DNS.

You’ll need the original purchaser of the domain to login and make this change.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

    Hi
….thats the strange thing. I can’t recall that I’ve registered it somewhere else. whois.com ed me to wildwestdomains, there support told this:
“This domain is hosted with WordPress.com. Please feel free to contact them directly at support@wordpress.com.”

When I logged in I didn’t see it anymore either under domains…
Maybe you got a suggestion how I can retrieve the needed information.
    cheers

On my paypal account I have been charged for the following services by WordPressthe:
    -Domain Registration for wrongbrothersinc.com
    -Private Registration for wrongbrothersinc.com
    -Domain Mapping for wrongbrothersinc.com

and I didn`t change anything… so it must still be hosted by wordpress

  • The most likely reason for this is that you ended up with a second WordPress.com user account at some point and that is the account that purchased the domain.

Can you think of any other email addresses you might have used to create an account?

  • Unknown's avatar

this is definitely not the case. When I logged in to my account two days ago, the registered domaine suddenly showed up again. The name servers it shows is the one of my mail host. but I still can’t find the record or the DNS that I could give to the webmailhost so he can point it to the WP page. Since I believe it is the best way, I asked for a domain transfer….but still waiting for the needed data.

  • The account you are posting from does not own the domain in question. If you log into your WordPress.com account and go to this page:

    https://wrongbrothers.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php

…you will be able to see the other accounts on that site. One of those user accounts owns the domain. If you need to change DNS for the domain, you need to log in with the account that owns it.

I’m may be stupid, but when I go to the link you sent me I read my name with administrator status. I’m sure I logged in to my account. I can see all the information but the DNS… I can also see that the nameservers have been changed to the new host of my mail. I can see the incuded domain and the registered one. I could even make the registered domain to be the primary, but if i’d do this, i guess my mail wouldn’t work anymore…

  • There are limits to what an Administrator can do if they are not the owner of the domain itself.

This is why it is typically best to have the site owner/Admin own all upgrades for a site. But sometimes accidents happen and people end up purchasing upgrades with additional accounts.

There’s been a lot of back and forth here. Just so I’m clear, what is your ultimate goal here? Do you want your domain to point to a WordPress.com site, but also use email with that domain? Do you want to point the domain to a non-WordPress.com site? Do you want to transfer domain registration away from WordPress.com completely?

  • Unknown's avatar

I think best would be to transfer the domain registration away from wordPress.com to the place where I got my mail. So everything is together.

If we leave it as it is I need to tell my mail host the needed information so they can point the wrongbrothersinc.com towards the wordpress page. if i did understand them right….

In order to do that, you will need to log into the account that owns the domain. There is no way around this, I’m afraid.

Can you tell me what they were looking for?

You can find some instructions here on email with WordPress.com registered domains that may help:

if there are two admin one of the two has to be the owner, right? Or could the ownership be hold by a member of non admin status?

My mailhost was asking for an arecord or the dns….

  • The owner wouldn’t HAVE to be an admin.

  • Unknown's avatar

can you see who the owner is?
