A Records

We have purchased our Domain Name through Godaddy and would like to use CloudFlare for DDOS protection and edge caching. Is it possible to host on wordpress free with this configuration?
When I followed the steps in the FAQ, it seems that I need to upgrade to a paid hosting service to us an A record or drop CloudFlare and use WordPress.com as our Name Server. Is that accurate?

  • Hi there,

You don’t really need CloudFlare if your site is hosted on WordPress.com.

WordPress.com sites come with DDOS protection already built in, and our DDOS protection is considered among the best on the web.

The same goes for caching – WordPress.com has our own CDN, with content, media, and static resources for your site cached on servers across the world, so someone visiting your site will always be connected to the server that’s geographically the closest to them.

Our CDN and DNS are both as fast as, and occasionally even faster than, CloudFlare’s.

To use your own domain with a WordPress.com site requires an upgrade to one of our paid plans, regardless of how you point the domain to us.
