    Hi Alison,

You can find your A-records by contacting your registrar. The domain while mapped to us, is not registered through us. Please view the link below to find your registrar:

    http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=alisonlowry.co.uk

It looks like your registrar is Mr. Site and their site can be found at:

    http://uk.mrsite.com

    Hi there

Thanks very much for your reply.

    I am now completely confused!!

I transferred my website to wordpress and yes mr site still hosts my domain name.

I am trying to also move the web email. I emailed them this:

Additionally, can you please provide me with the complete MX and/or other DNS records I will need to enter on WordPress.com’s end, so that my email on this domain will continue to function after my name servers have been updated?

But they have told me they had had problems before with wordpress and to obtain my ‘A records/IP address’ and they will redirect the mail their end…

    Hi Alison,

It is actually the opposite. Your domain is registered with Mr Site and hosted through us – as seen your nameservers are pointing to us:

    http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=alisonlowry.co.uk

Therefore, only Mr. Site would have access to your A-records. Are you trying to move elsewhere (away from WordPress.com)?

If you want to stay with WordPress.com and add email hosting, please follow this support guide.

I would actually suggest email forwarding. This allows you to set up virtual email addresses that contain your custom domain and forward messages to the email address you choose.

    Cheers!

    Hi Grace

The problem is I already have an email (email visible only to moderators and staff) that was attached to my previous website (mr site) Its this email that I have on all my marketing materials, so I want to keep it. I currently cant access it because Im trying to resolve this with wordpress and mr site.

I want to stay with wordpress, but keep my existing email which is attached to mr site.

I read the wordpress instructions on how to do this-and sent them that paragraph asking for my DNS records. But they tell me THEY need the A records or IP address to redirect my email towards the wordpress site.

Email forwarding doesnt seem to be an option for me, because I have a very specific email address I want to use?

I need this resolved asap as Ive no access to my business email acc at the minute!

    Thanks

    alison

    Hi Alison,

I think I understand what’s going on. Currently, your nameservers are pointing to us. That would be the best way to map your domain to your WordPress.com site. If you want to set up your email ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), normally it is done through adding MX records, which you can get from your provider. You can add this through your custom DNS.

    DNS Records

If you need help with this, just provide me your MX records and I can set this up for you.

However, if you want to map your domain using our IP addresses, please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records accordingly.

If you still want to go ahead and map your domain using A records, please be sure to create at least two, pointing to two different IPs from the list below:

    • 192.0.81.250
    • 66.155.11.238
    • 76.74.254.123
    • 192.0.80.250
    • 76.74.254.120
    • 66.155.9.238

    Cheers!

    Hi Grace

Thanks for all that… this is pure torture… especially when you dont have a clue what you’re talking about!

From talking to the techs at Mr Site they had had problems with the MX records thing, so had advised me to get your IP/A records. Have you heard of that happening before?

Hopefully when I talk to then tomorrow they can sort this out one way or another..

    Thanks again!

    Hi Alison,

Ah! I’m sorry this is happening. I know it can be extremely frustrating/confusing having to hear two different things from two different companies. So, currently, I guess there are pros and cons to both sides. If you map your domain using our IPs, it’s not permanent, so in the future you might have to update the IPs, but on the other end the MX records are having problems so you might have trouble with your email.

Currently, if your email is the biggest issue, and need that sorted out right away, I recommend going with their route and use our IP addresses. If you find that your domain is not working in the future, please contact us right away and we can give you the most current IPs.

If they are able to figure out the MX records issue in the future, let me know and we can go from there :)

    Happy Blogging!
