A Statistical Coincidence?
-
Hi,
I have been getting a really unusual amount of spam in my Gmail account for gambling and dating sites which I just allowed my spam folder to automatically delete after a month.
I decided to start deleting the spam everyday and something odd is happening to my WordPress stats – they have practically gone down to zero!
Coincidence or something else?
I have been monitoring it for a while.
Wordpress and YouTube are the only sites I use these days. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
I’m not sure I follow your logic here. Are you suspecting that deleting Spam from your Gmail is affecting your WordPress.com stats?
I don’t see any connection there. Have I misunderstood something? -
* Update*
We are currently carrying out some experiments with spam comments and deactivating and activating Google services to see what may be causing analytics to change and suffocating real data.
Our findings will be passed to a competent party who can act on the information.

Hi Fresatomic
Your post only showed up after I wrote an update.
Yes, there appears to be a connection as literally within hours of me deleting spam I noticed a considerable change which still exists now.
With Google services syncing and plug ins interconnected, it is difficult to see at present just how deeply rooted it goes.
Personally, I dont use plug ins but others have raised concerns in regards to spam.Cheers

Hi there,
It looks like you’re referring to a site other than mercedesblak.wordpress.com which is the only one on your WordPress.com account. Please let me know the address of the site’ you’re working on so I can point you in the right direction of getting support.
Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software you need to seek help at these forums:

Hi,
I’m not sure you read my original comment.
It is this blog where the issue is.
People need to be aware of issues as they may find such anomalies themselves.
Stand alone spam comments have many purposes.I have another blog on WordPress.com registered under a different email which isn’t Gmail. Totally separate.
I have no WordPress.org accounts.
Just so you know.
:-)Cheers.

Another anonymous.
We have just used the WordPress app to scroll through all blog posts to find one is missing. The blog itself is live and available to read and has the most views although it is not showing as a published blog.🤔
Cheers
