A Suggestion for the Forums
-
Hello staff,
I think it would be helpful to have the ability to add an edit button for our posts. I know there was one time for sure that my browser decided to do an autocorrect on me where I didn’t catch it. Thankfully it didn’t hinder my effort in helping the user out, but given this help is primarily tech-related it could have easily messed somebody up if it ever happened at the wrong part of our messages.
Although it’s not a biggie if my suggestion wouldn’t be implemented, I thought I would share it anyways. I don’t even know how feasible adding such a feature would be for all of our benefits, but like I said I wanted to put it out there for y’all.
Keep doing the great work you’re doing! I hope all is well and stay safe! :)

Hi John, I’ve added the MODLOOK tag to your post bring your suggestion to the attention of forum Staff.
There was a discussion in the past about adding the ability to edit forum posts, but at that time, the edit button was being misused by users and WPcom decided against implementing it.
And thanks for all your help here in our forums. ICYMI, Staff have written up a brilliant guide with lots of tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your experience helping WPcom users. You can find it here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-volunteers/

Hey Jennifer,
Thanks for adding the modlook tag (knew I was forgetting something haha).
I can see how it could be abused, so I fully understand. Like I said it’s no biggie, I just thought it would be a nice to have. ;)
I have been referring to that guide (very well written by the way), and have also created a file on my pc with likely used URLs to share, etc. It’s been a lot of fun the last couple of days helping folks on here! :)
Thanks again,

Hi there @correspondwithjohn
Thank you for the feedback and suggestions. As @justjennifer mentioned, although there was discussion about adding an edit button for users (as I do see several positives for adding the feature), similar to editing comments on the owner’s posts, there was some misuse of the feature.
There would be instances where the edit/altered text would no longer make sense within the context of the thread conversation, making it confusing and difficult to follow for both us and volunteers and potentially hinder our ability to help the user.
Typos are okay – I do them all the time. It’s best to reply to your original thread if there are any updates or corrections you need to add.
Thanks,
-
Hey Darnell,
I understand. I’ll definitely keep in mind the tidbit of just replying any necessary corrections.
Thanks, Darnell! :)

Hi @spacerik,
That’s the same as editing out your whole comment. As staff-doublebassd suggested, you have to create a new thread.
